A judge has blocked Donald Trump’s administration order to cut funding to NPR and PBS, ruling it unconstitutional and a violation of First Amendment rights.
The Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a longtime funder of PBS Kids, was shut down earlier this year under Trump.
We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of our dear friend and colleague, Rep. Doug LaMalfa.
Doug was a devoted public servant who deeply loved the people of Northern California and never stopped working for them. He believed in this country, in our work, and in the responsibility we have to serve every constituent with care and humility.
He was one of the kindest men to ever serve in this institution, and he will be greatly missed.
Our prayers are with his wife Jill, their four children, and all who loved him.
Today, Chairman @RepLaMalfa passed away. While his legacy over the past two decades is truly astonishing, the impact of who he was as a husband, father, friend, and boss will last an eternity. He was rich in every way that mattered. We will all miss you forever. Rest easy, Chief.
Congress is devastated to learn this morning about the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Doug LaMalfa. Doug was a lifelong resident of northern California and deeply loved its people. He was as fierce of a fighter for his state’s vast natural resources and beauty as we have ever known. We are mourning the loss of our friend and brother today and we send our respects for his life and work to his wife Jill and the LaMalfa family during this difficult time.
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)
I am profoundly heartbroken to hear of the passing of my close friend, Congressman Doug LaMalfa. Before serving together in Congress, we weren’t just colleagues in the California State Legislature, we were roommates.
Doug was first and foremost a devoted husband and father, inspired by his Christian faith and values to make the lives of others better. Many will remember him as a principled legislator, but he was also a commonsense rice farmer through and through, spending his time in Congress fighting for family farms on agriculture, water, and resource issues, as well as working to eliminate government waste like California’s high-speed rail.
Always thoughtful and affable, Doug was the unanimous choice of his colleagues to lead the Western Caucus in Congress. He will be truly missed. I share my prayers and condolences with Jill, their children, their entire family, and the entire LaMalfa team during this most difficult time.
House Republicans mourn the loss of Congressman Doug LaMalfa.
A lifelong resident of Northern California and a fourth-generation rice farmer, Congressman LaMalfa spent more than two decades in public service. He proudly represented California’s 1st Congressional District from 2013 to 2026, serving as Chairman of the Congressional Western Caucus.
Please join us in praying for Congressman LaMalfa’s wife, kids, and staff.
