Before any members of the Pro Hockey Writers Association think about putting #CarterHart on their Conn Smythe ballot, they should have to gather their wives, moms, sisters and daughters and say “I don’t care what he did, he’s just that good at hockey.”
On this day in Philly sports history, May 19, 1974
The Flyers defeated the Bruins, 1-0, at The Spectrum to win the Stanley Cup Final in six games and become the first expansion-era team to win the Stanley Cup.
Rick MacLeish scored the lone goal while Bernie Parent stopped every Boston shot for the shutout.
Parent finished the postseason with a legendary run and was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP
@NBCSPhilly@JClarkNBCS Extremely proud of this team, how far they took it and pushed the house money around. We’ve build a foundation to move forward with…..
The product on the ice hasn’t been this exciting in years. We’re back baby. Let’s see the off season push, I want a big name baby. 🏒🥅
"I think that's amazing ... That was awesome." 🧡
Rick Tocchet wanted to thank Flyers fans for the standing ovation they gave the team after elimination.
@NHLFlyers@NHL@phillysport@SportsRadioWIP why do the hurricanes get a nice rest….. but the Flyers have to play on 2 days rest?
First time I can remember them pulling a series up this far…. Still a lot of games left for round 1 to close out!?!?
What gives???
Philadelphia has a #1 goaltender ✊🔥
Dan Vladar was the team MVP all season long and took it to another level in Round 1 against Pittsburgh.
Full series stats: 6 GP, .937 SV%, 1.61 GAA, 2 SO, 6.9 GSAx
Vladar’s 42 saves in Game 6 were the most ever by a #Flyers goalie in a series clincher.
He recorded the fourth-most saves in a series-clinching shutout win over the past 70 years.
The only goalies with more: Patrick Roy (63, 1996 SCF), Andrei Vasilevskiy (49, 2022 R2), and Carey Price (43, 2015 R1)
