You underestimate just how influential social media is. It's basically a gigantic groupthink mechanism, which is a psychological term for having your thinking altered based on the agreed opinion of a group around you. And it's physically impossible to overcome, at least to some extent, and it will alter your opinion even if you know it's happening to you. This is why you see hundreds of thousands of bots pushing the same propaganda. I'll give you an example, remember the big bot push against Supergirl, and everywhere you looked they were making fun of the actresses looks? When it streamed on HBO every time I saw her open her mouth I thought about her teeth, and it made the movie unenjoyable to me, despite being excited for it 6 months ago.

So no, they really aren't too worried, and this is also why countries have limited social media, and some even banning this platform.
