Millions of Americans use digital assets to pay, save, and invest, but our tax code hasn’t kept pace. Everyday transactions can create complex reporting obligations and burdensome compliance costs, leading to lost money and endless forms when tax season rolls around. It's time for Congress to modernize the tax code with clear, workable rules that reflect how digital assets are actually used.

[Kara Calvert 🛡️ @karacalvert]

Every crypto user I talk to -- retail and institutional alike -- says the same thing: the most challenging part of using digital assets is navigating the complexity of tax compliance, even for the most routine transactions. The IRS guidance hasn’t kept up, and people just want to get it right. While Congress is home for the elections, let your members know what changes are needed: https://t.co/RRdsnrwLjG

My favorite part of @BlockchainAssn has always been the people. BA has always been a magnet for hardworking, talented people – including so many who’ve gone on to lead across our industry.

I got to work with @millercwl at BA…now he’s my boss at @SolanaInstitute! And he’s one of so many BA alumni doing incredible things.

That tradition continues with this team. Get to know them, hear what they have to say, and give them a follow.

3/ Our Digital Asset Tax Principles offer a practical foundation:

- A meaningful de minimis exemption
- Mining and staking rewards taxed as newly created property upon disposition
- Reporting that protects taxpayer privacy
- Tax that follows economic substance, not technical form
- Wash sale rules that prevent abuse without penalizing everyday activity
