This thread is important, the loss and damage to cultural sites and sacred landscapes in Glen Canyon is one of the biggest reasons to be excited for its recovery as Powell recedes, and allowing indigenous access to the recovered areas is an important step forward
When Lake Powell was filled the fed government knowingly flooded an array of Indigenous cultural sites within the Glen Canyon area. Now, with climate change and extreme drought, about 1/4 of the sites that were previously underwater or inaccessible have once again reemerged.
