@BenGoldsmith What we actually need to do is invest in technology to process our natural wool rather than the oil industry from which we get our man made fibres…
@MaryCreagh_ No, it means the farmers are being screwed once again! We have seen an average price drop of £300 per cow over the last 3 months. Dairy farmers are being paid below the cost of production for milk. Farming & food security is on a knife edge & this government needs to wake up!
@DaleVince This is only for small farms up to 50ha. Don’t think you’ll get many arable farms producing food in that. You need economies of scale nowadays. More likely to attract small livestock farmers
@JamesMelville Wildlife & looking after our ecosystems going forward is pretty important for food production. Maybe more so than historical figures. & let’s face it, other than Churchill most people probably wouldn’t be able to name the figures on bank notes…
@gow_derek@scottishfarmer It’s a legal requirement in the uk that all cattle must be uniquely identified. Bison too presumably. The only exception I’m aware of is the Chillingham herd of wild cattle
@HenryRileyA6@philip_ciwf The sad thing is they are probably the ones most likely to stay in business as the people & government demand cheap food. That’s why we’ve ended up at this point. 😢
@curlewcalls@BirdLifeAustria@Nabu This surprises me. I would have thought Austria to be better habitat for Curlew as they mow their meadows later in the Alps & agriculture not as intensive as the UK, or perhaps that’s my wrong perception of Austria as I’ve always visited lovely places for nature. 🤔
@MeganRural@BenGoldsmith@GrahamDenny9 I was at Martin Down 3 weeks ago, what a fabulous place for farmland birds. The farmers are doing a great job there. A great example of farming & nature working together
@DPAutomation@TonyJuniper@DeAthCardiff In the UK around 80,000 hectares of maize was grown for energy rather than animal feed in 2023 according to the internet 🤔
