Imagine a mayor declaring the smoking ban “unworkable” and instructing staff not to enforce it in council-run buildings.

Or saying seatbelt laws conflict with her personal beliefs, so transport staff need not follow them.

We would rightly consider that extraordinary.

Yet Hackney’s Green mayor, Zoë Garbett, has said men who identify as women may continue using women’s facilities - and instructed council staff not to “police access”.

Earlier this month, Greater Manchester mayor Bev Craig refused to commit to implementing the new EHRC code on single-sex services.

Politicians are entitled to oppose laws and campaign to change them. But they are not entitled to treat legal obligations conflicting with their personal ideology as optional.

These are not unpaid activists. Garbett receives around £89,000 a year in public money. Craig receives around £118,000 and oversees transport, policing and fire services across Greater Manchester.

If elected mayors are prepared to disregard a statutory code reflecting a Supreme Court ruling, what other legal obligations might they decide not to follow?

And why are neither being held to account?

This is Dave. Dave fights against racism and Nazi’s. But he also hates Jews.

Some good news.

The former police chief constable who banned Maccabi Tel Aviv fans is being investigated for gross misconduct.

Craig Guildford, who was on a £220,000 annual salary and will retire on a full pension, fabricated and exaggerated evidence to justify his ban on Israeli fans watching their team play Aston Villa.

This police force has clearly been corrupted by local Muslim activists to ban peace-loving Jews and avoid Muslim violence.

The entire West Midlands Police force needs investigating.
