The 20s Blueprint: 6 Unconventional Don’ts
Stop following dreams; do what you’re good at.
Don’t niche down too early; experiment.
Don’t cultivate vices; they become chains.
Don’t become cruel in a harsh world.
Avoid pessimism; it's lazy.
Skip easy answers; seek nuance.
@prasenx I think about Talebs concept of antifragility a lot.
We cannot predict the future so it has to be a career that will actually benefit from disruption.
@HotDogEnjoyer2@BoogieBankss You are right! Eespecially the latter is not talked about enough: simply being likeable and easy to work with can open doors.
People hire people, not CVs.
@SahilBloom Procrastination = spending more time thinking about doing something than doing it.
It is our poor brain trying to protect us.
It knows daydreaming will give us an endorphin rush, actually doing something can get us hurt.
What it doesn't know (yet): how painful regret is.
@BookNoteApp Why we scroll: days are so fragmented by chores that we cannot immerse ourselves in books
Reading requires uninterrupted hours.
Still, we can read while commuting.
In the mornings or evenings.
But then, there's fatigue.
It's like hitting the Gym.
We need to push ourselves.
@Agam1809@buildwithsid That's a great point: absolutes are rarely true and I agree that having a cheat meal once in a while doesn't hurt. It's a matter of moderation.
Unless one knows that moderation won't work. Have seen it with a friend who quit smoking, a single cigarette got him hooked again.
@ThebookishC You are welcome!
Everything in life is about balance, social media needs a counterweight to all the heavily one-sided narratives.
There is a quote by Nietzsche that there is his way and your way, but not THE way, because the one single way doesn't exist.
@DearS_o_n Why a baby?
Having children is a blessing and a goal of mine, but also a serious responsibility.
One needs to be ready for that.
It is not a rolex that you can flex. It is a young, dependent life we are talking about. Keep that in mind.
@itskwasi We tend to listen to advice WE Like to hear.
So, if college is hard, expensive or unattainable for other reasons, of course that narrative sounds comforting.
Nobody ist immune to that bias.
All we can do is try to rely on data, independent sources and critical thinking.
@emilfagerholm True, even hard work and a bright mind do not guarantee success.
But that is just life, right? Nothing is certain. Certainty is an illusion designed to simulate some kind of control over pure entropy.
But if you give up on a goal, you will DEFINITELY not make it.
