@FIFABrit Correct intent is condition one, if its intentionally harmful, dangerous, malicious then red. If it's not, does it rise to excessively dangerous or reckless. It meets neither. It wasn't called on the field at all making it hard to see excess
@lipevieira Anyone who's played has had their ankles stepped on more times than they can count and know that its not even remotely automatic. They also know what type of player whines about technicalities and begs for calls.
@BigItaly42 My only beef with that call is making it after letting Belgium get a clear scoring chance (that they missed) as a result of the play. If they had buried that goal would they have called it back and made them take a PK?
@luism8989 No part of the rules consider the severity of injury. There is nothing that states if some one is hurt bad enough it has to be a red card or automatic offense. People get hurt all the time, sometimes severely, in perfectly legal interactions.
