@ThatsItForAcher Some mix of a need to have opinions, the political/cultural bend to ordaining women. Sometimes envy of [those whom they see as] the religious.
That is the only thing that motivates our public servants to action now: Making sure that they retain exclusive dominion over the turf that they are otherwise content to stand by and watch burn.
@aleigefen If you don't need to open a copy, lots of libraries seem to have it (looking at worldcat) and electronic versions are available from my univ library
@joshuac220@jeremytibbetts1 @HeliasHebreus My first thought, too. Non-orthodox may even have a thorough anthropology, but little practice, and even less resistance from others to his practice. Hard to understand yourself and your position in the world w/o others' responses.
@hatstand_pincer @wesyang Why are these exclusive?
Even if a diagnosis is a good description (they're often just useful categories for similar diseases; e.g. glaucoma, schizophr., URI), those descriptors come with prescriptions (treatment and behaviors). Those are based on priorities: values, morals, &c
@hatstand_pincer @wesyang Is that wrong?
Being diagnosed inevitably affects patients: how doctors relate to them, placebo/nocebo effects, etc. This isn't malicious: docs need to form an opinion to treat patients.
But notably, diagnoses aren't uncontroversal. See the DSM-V or chronc fatigue syndrome.
@ThatsItForAcher @DolphinVengence If they adopt our style and food and expresssions, what will be left of the Jews? What if our only source of uniqueness was our relationship with G-d?
Terrifying.
@eigenrobot It's not too bad yet. A Guyanese Indian guy I worked with was called an Arab and nearly run over. When I speak Russian, Americans ask, "Oh, are you from Ukraine? I'm so sorry"
@owenbroadcast Very ying and yang, too. The hedonic gathering was people focused on themselves and the big science fair had a great deal of national pride
one of the biggest lifehacks is to find beauty anywhere you look. a weird cloud? frost on a blade of grass? a spidery crack in the sidewalk? rainbow oily puddle? texture on a rock? birdsong? weโre immersed in beauty constantly if only we took a moment to notice it
