When Black Lives Matter rioters were doing $1bn worth of damage to American cities, Starmer declared his "shock and anger at the death of George Floyd", and "the UK’s abhorrence" at Trump's response. As Shadow minister he went to Taiwan to lobby against the death penalty. The entire human rights edifice he built his career in is predicated on the idea that nations are supposed to interfere in each others internal affairs to maintain standards.
It's not particularly convincing to suddenly declare public debate is foreign interference in our democracy when it's pretty much the ordinary course of business in the West. And it's not particularly hard to read this: Starmer is happy to try and turn a very awkward story for his beliefs into a row over knives or with the White House.
I was living in Scotland at the time and remember this case well.
The amount of coverage in the media was minimal given the horrific nature of the crime. There were only three mentions of it on BBC UK-wide news. A huge contrast to the Stephen Lawrence case.
We've had two tier politics and two tier media for a very very long time.
This was 2004: pre Twitter and pre Elon Musk of course. It might be a different story today.
Sometimes I’m reminded of the jewish woman who was caught covering up several Pakistani grooming gangs.
After playing the victim (and attempting to gaslight everyone), they gave her £134,000 and rehired her as a consultant.
I hate what our country has became.
Three large Sikh community accounts on Instagram shared a video about a White British man who killed an Saudi student.
The Saudi victim is Muslim, not Sikh.
Here are the top comments - when push comes to shove, they will always side against the native population.
Unless we do something about this there will be more Barnaby Webbers and more Henry Nowaks.
So we'll continue to discuss it because It could be me or someone I love next.
@BBCNews English is a race. If we're all fungible human capital whose race is determined by the stroke of a bureaucrat's pen then all the blacks grifting for reparations should also be paid by the black British as there is clearly no difference according to this corrupt liberal ideology
@BBCNews There's not much to debate.
The English are an ethnic group, you're not English just because you were born in England or because you have a British passport.
Nothing ‘deeply contentious’ about it.
You can be born in England, speak English and be shagging the king of England but if you don’t have English heritage then you’re not English!
An african who is good at kicking a football in an England shirt is also not English.
We don’t have magic soil nor magic tea in this country. The English are a distinct Germanic/Brythonic people.
Only English heritage makes you English. 🏴
@BBCNews It’s only contentious if you are a bedwetting liberal who dreams of a multiculty utopia, whilst suffering extreme self hatred.
Every other race seems to think England is an Anglo Saxon civilisation, and have named us accordingly.
