Massillon is no longer just a football town as the #4 Tigers won its first boys state basketball championship coming back from a 15-point third quarter deficit to defeat #1 Westerville North 68-63 in the Division 2 Championship.
Massillon (27-1) held a 25-24 lead at the break before the Warriors (26-2) put up a strong third quarter leading by as many as 15 midway through the period at 45-30, but the Tigers went on a run to end the quarter and trail 48-40.
The Tigers then started the fourth on a 17-3 to take a 6 point lead with two minutes remaining, but Westerville North would respond with a 7-1 run to end regulation and force the second consecutive state championship overtime game.
Massillon controlled the overtime period holding the Warriors to 0 field goals as they could only find points from the free throw line where they were 5-6.
It's the first state championship for Massillon in their first trip to the final four since 1945.
