In the United States, 32 states allow judges or magistrates to serve without a law degree.

In North Carolina, where the magistrate involved in the release of Iryna Zarutska’s alleged killer served, reports have stated that more than 80% of magistrates do not hold a J.D.

The 32 states are:

Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.

You all remember the Lewiston Maine shooting incident that happened in 2023 in which 18 people were killed. Millions of dollars were raised for the victims, and their families.. Turns out that $1.3 million of that money went to Somali nonprofits. Why?, no one really knows.
Iman Osman was one who only a week after winning his city Council seat has resigned for receiving $65,000 of that money that was supposed to go to the victims. In addition to him receiving the funds, he was charged with two felony gun charges, and gave a false home address which was a condemned chicken factory. 🤨
The more you dig the worse it just gets.

This is the quiet part they never want said out loud.
Showing ID to vote is not some radical new idea. It’s the same basic standard we already accept for buying cold medicine, boarding a plane, or cashing a check. Yet somehow the moment it touches the ballot box, certain voices act like the Republic is ending.
I’ve watched this debate for years. The people who fight hardest against basic voter verification are rarely the ones standing in line at 6 a.m. in a small-town precinct. They’re the ones who benefit when the rules stay fuzzy and accountability stays optional.
Clean elections aren’t about shutting people out. They’re about making sure every legal vote actually counts the way it’s supposed to. When the process is transparent and consistent, trust goes up. When it’s not, cynicism spreads like wildfire and good people start checking out.
We can have both compassion and standards. We can want every eligible citizen to vote and still insist the system has teeth. Those two things are not enemies.
