I started as a refrigeration tech and became a building controls engineer, so I have spent my career keeping cold rooms cold and buildings running on less energy.
Here I cover AI, energy and buildings: how data centers get powered and cooled, heat pumps, the grid, and the new tools changing how we work.
I'll give you the source for every number, call a company claim a company claim, and leave the caveats in. I'm hopeful because a lot is getting better, and honest because the job isn't finished.
If that is your lane too, I would like to hear what you are seeing on the ground.
Want to dig deeper? Paste this into Grok: "CISA's Oct 27 advisory ICSA-26-300-01 lists four flaws in EPICS Base 7.0.10 and older, fixed in 7.0.11. Causal Security says its AI tool found them in 3 hours 49 minutes. What should an EPICS site check before upgrading?"
The fix is the easy part; getting it installed is the job. CISA, the US government's cybersecurity agency, listed four flaws in EPICS Base on Oct 27, and the worst has a severity score of 9.8 out of 10. EPICS is open-source software used to build control systems at labs and research facilities; The Register says around 90 major projects and facilities use it. Causal Security says its artificial intelligence tool, Cipher, found the flaws in 3 hours 49 minutes. That timing is Causal's own claim, and CISA's advisory does not mention it.
What worked: people fixed it. EPICS maintainers wrote and reviewed the fix, merged July 23, 44 days after Causal says it reported the bugs on June 9. The pull request says the fix was released early, after a later report that was not confidential covered overlapping issues. A companion fix merged August 10. The artificial intelligence tool found the bugs. Maintainers did the repair. CISA says no public exploitation of these flaws has been reported to it. Not finished: the main fix code was public from July 23, but the advisory and the fixed release, 7.0.11, came on October 27, which is 140 days after Causal says it reported on June 9. I found no public count of EPICS sites already on 7.0.11. Causal says it did not show remote code execution; CISA lists it as a possible result. The 7.0.11 release notes warn that stricter checks may cause trouble for older client software that talks to EPICS, so test first.
Run EPICS? Check your version, test 7.0.11 on a spare system, and tell the lab or plant next door. CISA also says to keep control systems off the internet and behind firewalls. The fix's author thanked three reviewers by name, so if you can offer test or review time, offer it. Disclosure: Causal makes Cipher and published this research on its own site; I found no SpaceX or Grok tie.
@w_s_bitcoin@Investanswers Unless the agents find a better way, which seems to be happening.
I'd be amazed if any crypto prediction today is true in a few years.
Baker on a16z admitted something nobody his age says out loud. 23-year-olds are more fluent in AI than he will ever be. He has been trying hard. He is still behind.
Then he explained how Grok Bot leveled it.
"We got Claude Code. I built some stuff, did some cool stuff. Then in 3 minutes of creating Grok Bots, I had much better versions of everything I created."
Podcast summarizer. 10 seconds in Grok Bot.
Substack summarizer, X summarizer, X sentiment tracker. Hours in Claude Code. 7 to 12 seconds in Grok Bot. Better.
His frame: "To me, Grok Bot does feel like another ChatGPT moment."
Baker runs billions. He is calling Grok Bot a category reset.
@robmactwit@TechnoSamsara@MarketPalmer_ One that chooses to be homeless or has no other choice?
I live in Vegas, we have plenty here.
@grok How much more abounance is available compaired to say 50yrs ago, currently just in the US? Look at it from the 1% to the homeless person.

America made the first electronic computer to win a war.
Now we depend on our greatest adversaries to build the computers that run our economy and defend our nation.
Today, we bring it home.
