ND and PSU were likely to win no matter what. But I'm unsure if IU or SMU could have won even if they had played their best. Alabama and Ole Miss certainly might have laid eggs (as they've done this year), but they could have won with their A games.
In other words, the chatter that bothers you isn't about whether IU or SMU "deserved" a spot. It was from folks who take a different view of how to decide who should be in the playoffs.
The other approach is to ask who had the best chance to win. Pretend you had a gun to your head and had to bet your life on the teams playing against ND and PSU. In that scenario, which two teams would you select among IU, SMU, 'Bama, Ole Miss, and South Carolina?
Hey, @joelklatt, there are two approaches to who belongs in the playoff. The approach you favor is who "deserves" a spot. There is no question that Indiana and SMU win that argument as one-loss teams from Power 4 conferences.
@joelklatt@TexasFootball How’d I know you’d be apologizing for IU. The reason is simple. IU had 150 yards against OSU. Let me say it again… 150 yards. They were completely outclassed in every way. Texas lost to Georgia, but won two of the halves. Neither game was a curb stomping like IU took.
@ReceDavis@PeteThamel@CollegeGameDay@GeorgiaTechFB@EPICMuseumCHQ@FSUFootball Ask your hotel concierge for recommendations to watch that last game. I was in London the Fall of 2006 for business, and my concierge gave me the best guess on where to watch Texas v. K Stare. I stumbled into a bar full of burnt orange cause UT ex pats were there every weekend
@robwalling I wonder if the 4 elements for freemium plan needs a slight tweak. Maybe the 4th element should be that the free plan has a strong marketing or conversion value. Vitality is one option, but what about a free plan that drives a significant number of free users to buy?
@robwalling loved episode 706.5 of @startupspod. I caught on early in point two. Probably didn't catch on during point one because it was a message I liked...
You can't call yourself a "free speech absolutist" and want to silence a non-profit research organization you disagree with or cancel a deal with a journalist because of the questions they asked you. You've simply chosen one moderation policy over another. #JustSaying
Dear @hubspot,
With the recent changes from Google and Yahoo, your users need a way to get SPF alignment without having to cough up more money for a dedicated IP.
The changes had zero impact on our non-Hubspot list but we've seen 40% decline in opens of Hubspot-sent emails.
My 20+ years as a lawyer have taught me one thing...
The side that's winning tends to use a methodical, matter-of-fact presentation.
The side that's losing tends to use a lot of adjectives and adverbs.
Hey @DreamHost... I'm quite confused about your "guarantee" about 100% uptime. We moved to you from @SiteGround about two months ago, and our site has been down at least three times since then. We never had outages when we were with SiteGround.
I love the advice in this post... and am honored to have my core value of "Be A Radical Giver" featured!
