Amazon banning agents is the first opportunity I've seen since Amazon was founded for a startup to create an Amazon competitor. People will want agents to buy stuff for them. It will be one of the main use cases. And they won't want to use some Amazon-supplied agent to do it.
I got a deal teaser this year from a prominent, publicly traded investment bank that was clearly AI generated. I didn’t mind because I just dropped it in Claude and asked it to summarize it. I wouldn’t mind if they sent me a claude artifact frankly. My coworkers had a good laugh though. I’ve also seen wlb not improve on the buy side because VPs and MDs always want more slides, so the average length of a slide deck has increased as the cost per slide has decreased. I don’t think that is good for productivity but when the industry is so performative and you need to show IC you know everything about this company that’s what you get
There’s also the streamer economy where streamers piggyback on a games popularity to attract viewers and then the games get more popular as a result of people watching the streams. People want to watch streamers play popular games. A popular streamer could get away with playing a custom modded game but most try to ride the wave of what’s hot
About 79% of GTA 5 purchases were on console. 60% of destiny 2 players in 2023 were on console. I would be shocked if the consoles open up their walled garden for these mods. Why do people play on console (even though PC gamers insist PC is superior)? Convenience. Plug it into your tv, grab the controller after work, sit on the couch and relax. What games do most people play? Whatever their buddies are playing. The amount of people who want to spend time fiddling with the game setup and joining squads with randoms is actually pretty small. The pass through mods are cool but I think this thesis misunderstands that for most people video games are a form of shared culture like TV and movies and sports. People play what their friends play so they can play together and talk about it. Why is Fortnite one of the biggest games in the world? It’s not the best in graphics or mechanics or gunplay, it’s a giant network effect.
@JerryCap The interesting thing is they are using these to play multiplayer. 64 person halo for example. Changes the view on the network effect moat of video games a tiny bit
@OutsideView_@sellsidepleb@eastdakota Interesting I wasn’t aware. Thanks. I guess the argument is that the asset light model obviously is not immune to the macro but it can still be better than what’s happening at vail the past two years
Not even joking I sold $dis when that Walmart looking gift shop photo was making the rounds. This whole thing relies on the parks and you can’t keep pushing price if you’re not gonna push imagination! I’ve also become increasingly concerned that they are not able to make new IP stick, even if I think the X-men era will be good for the company.
Look, Disney's price increases happen like clockwork. YoY they work, their parks stay full.
My point is that long-term, they're pricing out families, who come back as adults with kids of their own. Which makes me ask — what's the end game?
