Public participation secured key budget changes, but Johannesburg’s 2026/27 budget still falls short of addressing the city’s deep financial, infrastructure and service delivery crisis.
The JCA, @WaterCANsa and @JoburgCAN remain concerned about rising costs for residents.
The mobilize team is on the ground at the Glencore offices in Melrose, the call by protesters is strong! No coal for apartheid Israel #FreePalestine#Glencore#StotFossilFuels
TOMORROW
Friday, 29 May 2026
From 10am
Outside TotalEnergies HQ,
Biermann Avenue, Rosebank
As TotalEnergies announces record profits to shareholders at its AGM, we will be occupying the street outside their South African headquarters in Rosebank and turning it into a site of struggle and a school of struggle.
Join us from 10am for the Energy for All Assembly: Kick Polluters Out and Fund Our Future! a community assembly and political school bringing together community activists, trade unionists, organisers and ordinary people to confront the deepening energy affordability crisis in South Africa and the role of multinational fossil fuel corporations like TotalEnergies in driving it.
While millions of South Africans are forced to choose between electricity and food, electricity and transport, corporations like Total continue to profit from extraction, pollution and profiteering across the African continent and beyond.
Together, we will grapple with:
• The crisis of energy access and unaffordability in South Africa
• The role of fossil fuel dependence in driving high electricity costs
• Why ordinary people are being forced to carry the costs of a system organised around profit
• The need to expand Free Basic Electricity (FBE) through publicly owned renewable energy
• The role of corporations like TotalEnergies in deepening extraction, exploitation and ecological destruction across Africa
Asinimali kodwa sinelanga!
