October is breast cancer awareness month.
Breast cancer is something that affects so many women and their families, and one of the most important messages we want to share is that knowing your body can save your life.
Breast awareness means becoming familiar with how your breasts normally look and feel, so that you can recognise changes. These may include a lump, changes in the size or shape of the breast, skin dimpling, changes to the nipple, unusual discharge or persistent pain. Not every change means cancer, but any new or unusual change should be assessed by a healthcare professional.
Remember, you do not have to wait until you feel a lump before seeking medical advice. Mammograms can detect changes before they can be felt, which is why screening is so important, particularly as we get older. The appropriate screening schedule depends on your age, risk factors and medical history. Typically, screening is recommended from the age of 40 and if you have a family history of breast cancer, or genetic mutations, early on screening is recommended.
Breast cancer falls into the category of “most curable cancers”. This means your stage 1 breast cancers (lump size less than 2cm and no regional lymph nodes metastases i.e. did not spread to the lymph node) is 99-100% curable.
At F.P. Oncology, together with Midvaal Private Hospital, we believe that awareness must go beyond simply talking about cancer. We want to make a real difference in our community.
In celebration of Midvaal Private Hospital’s 30th anniversary this year, and FP Oncology’s partnership with the hospital, we partnered with local businesses to offer mammogram screenings during October. We are incredibly grateful to our sponsors, Vaal Radiology, De Beer & Claassen Attorneys, and Midvaal Pharmacy, Mr Jeffery Hall, Dr Jean du Plessis and The Vereeniging Peace Lodge, and The Lodge of Emulation for helping us make this initiative possible. Vaal Radiology has also offered mammograms at a reduced rate.
We are very pleased with the community’s response, and all the sponsored mammogram appointments for this campaign have been fully booked. This shows just how important accessible screening is and how many women are willing to take that step towards looking after their health. We received over 70 phone calls and requests.
Our message is simple: please do not neglect yourself. Take a moment to check in with yourself, know your body, attend your recommended screenings and speak to your doctor if something does not feel right.
Early detection can make a significant difference to treatment options and outcomes.
Thank you.
This is the Temba Water Treatment plant in Tshwane. It was vandalised horrendously. It's operations have been shut.
Why? It had no security. Why? The security contract was ended without a replacement. Why? Ask ActionSA MMC Hannes Coetzee.
Why was TMPD not deployed? Ask the MMC again.
Over the past week, previously employed security guards have been protesting outside Tshwane house. ActionSA promised to insource them. Nothing of the sort has happened.
When the security contracts ended, guards across the city simply left their posts. The next day vandalism went through the ceiling.
The Ramaphosa administration is choosing a path that lead to the gutter.
The South African government is acting like they want to achieve something special, or they're exempt from the consequences of dumb politics.
There is nothing in the gutter but a weak currency, a weak passport, a dead banking sector, a stagnant economy, underdevelopment, unemployment, and poor infrastructure.
It's easy to say we won't back down, because all it takes is a mouth, but translating that toughness and defiance into reality is far harder.
South Africa needs the USA. South Africa needs free markets. South Africa needs a healthy, stable society.
Guys What is This Rubbish Now In our Land, what Is Pakistan South Africa Association?????? Why are these fools allowed to even be here and March, who even are these people and what documents are they using????? Lahamba lizwe😭😭😭😭💔💔💔🤮🤮🤮🤮
