Four soldiers have been kiIIed in action in the terrorist attack in the Machedi area of Kathua. The figure might rise.

We can kiII ten in retaliation and call it revenge, but is that really revenge? Can we equate the lives of our soldiers with these lowlifes? They are expendable. You kiII a hundred, and a hundred more will come. Their supply will never stop. For them, their own loss doesn't matter, but for us, if we lose even one soldier in return for their ten, it will still hurt.

This has to end. There should be a permanent solution, a lasting solution. How long can we just condemn the incident, pay tributes, watch the teary-eyed families of fallen soldiers collect medals, and helplessly move on?

We need an accountable government not one that lives in denial; we need a strong opposition, not a disruptive one. Sadly today in Lok Sabha, neither was government willing to be held to account (not a word again on Manipur) nor was the opposition willing to listen (kept interrupting PM speech). As I said in a recent column , the side with 240 talks like it has won 400 and that with 99 as if it’s crossed 272. A little more humility on all sides please: that was the message of the mandate. Meanwhile, Hathras death toll continues to climb : who will wipe the tears of bereaved families? 🙏
