Connor and Leon care about winning. If Katz/Jackson/Bowman tell Connor and Leon that Babcock can help them win, of course they're going to say "yeah bring him in." It's not the players' jobs to do the research and interview process. Putting it on them is disturbing by the media.
@dstaples@alanhull Maybe you see this as a ‘cancel culture’ thing. I see it as someone who demonstrated extremely poor judgement in a management position and who hasn’t had any success in ~17 years. The Oilers are in the hockey business, not the redemption business.
The biggest issue for me is Babcock hasn’t had any success in 17 years. The game and coaching has changed a lot since then. He is a bad hire based upon basic hockey merit alone.
I can’t understand why the Oilers are going after Mike Babcock when Scottie Bowman is still alive.
9 Stanley Cups! That clearly makes him the best candidate!
OilGM - “How are we ever going to get people to forget about the Jarry trade. It’s a disaster.
AsstGM - “I’ve got two words for you ‘Mike Babcock!’
OilGM - “That’s brilliant!”
I’ve got an idea. What if they put a little chip in the puck and made it glow on TV like a little dot. They could have little trailing streams of light for slap shots and stuff.
I enjoy watching hockey, but this sport will never gain the mainstream popularity it so desperately desires when people watching on TV cant see/tell when the teams score.
Toronto's power play implodes, its 5v5 goal share and expected goal share collapse, it allows more shots than anyone else in the league, it can't defend a lead, and of its two stars one guy is gone and the other guy looks like a shadow of himself.
Let's talk to that coach!
The Jarry trade alone is reason enough to replace Oilers management.
Remember, the Oilers could have called up Ingram at any point to take the pressure off of Skinner by playing him less.
I’m pretty sure that Knoblauch has some idea that his job may not be secure.
However, it’s very much like the Oilers to hold on too long before moving on. Most organizations would just fire Knoblauch and get on with it.
@coachzblair10 I think it’s reasonable in the evenings for parents to get together at the hotel in the evenings and have some drinks. But at the game? - seems really pathetic and also is bad parenting.
Knoblauch goes 0-3 on the road in the playoffs for a first round exit.
Absolutely embarrassed by Quenneville and Woodcroft when they had the last change.
Outcoached is an understatement.
Just imagine how much easier it would’ve been to fix goaltending if they had an open roster spot with an expired Skinner contract instead of an absolute boat anchor.
The trade alone is a fireable offence.
My take before the playoffs was that the best outcome is (obviously) a cup. But the second-best outcome is a first-round loss. Rather a short playoff exit that gives 97/29 rest and results in a coaching change over another deep run that results in no cup and no meaningful change.
not hate everyone involved with running this team since Katz bought it. I'll never forgive them going into our best chance years with Nurse-Ceci as a central pair and Skinner/Pickard as our goaltending duo. Absolutely unforgivable.
