Project Hail Mary writer Andy Weir on social commentary in books:
"I dislike social commentary. Like… I really hate it. When I’m reading a book, I just want to be entertained, not preached at by the author. Plus, it ruins the wonder of the story if I know the author has a political or social axe to grind. I no longer speculate about all possible outcomes of the story because I know for a fact that the universe of that book will conspire to ensure that the author’s political agenda is validated. I hate that."
"I put no politics or social commentary into my stories at all. Anyone who thinks they see something like that is reading it in on their own. I have no point to make, and I’m not trying to affect the reader’s opinion on anything. My sole job is to entertain, and I stick to that."
"To that end, I also don’t talk about my personal political opinions publicly. I don’t want readers to even know, honestly. I don’t want that in the back of their minds as they read my stuff."
Is this why he has the #1 sci-fi movie in decades?
When such arguments win out, the idea meritocracy will be weakened. Don't let that happen. If people respect the rules of the idea meritocracy, there will be no conflict. I know that from my experiences over decades. However, I also know that there will be people who put what they want above the idea meritocracy and threaten it. Consider those people to be enemies of the system and get rid of them. #principleoftheday
@Hut8Mining@investanswers does this improve your outlook for #HUT, or does this add to troubles coming? I see this as a sign that "they know". But I also see it as they are trying to get ahead of the game and fix some deficiencies. Your take?
Undeserved Good Guy Rap:
Charlie Conway (D3)
- Bashed Bombay for choosing a sustainable career over wanting to coach teenagers the rest of his life
- Wanted to rename his High School team ‘The Mighty Ducks’ because he refused to grow up
- Made himself Captain before a single practice
- Quit on the team because he was a baby
- Met with Hans after quitting the team/Hans died the next day. Suspicious.
The donkey said to the tiger:
- The grass is blue
The tiger replied:
- No, the grass is green.
The discussion heated up, and the two decided to submit the matter to arbitration, and for this they went before the lion, the King of the Jungle.
Already before reaching the forest clearing, where the lion was sitting on his throne, the donkey began to shout:
- His Highness, is it true that the grass is blue?
The lion replied:
- True, the grass is blue.
The donkey hurried and continued:
- The tiger disagrees with me and contradicts and annoys me, please punish him.
The king then declared:
- The tiger will be punished with 5 years of silence.
The donkey jumped cheerfully and went on his way, content and repeating:
- The Grass Is Blue…
The tiger accepted his punishment, but before he left, he asked the lion:
- Your Majesty, why have you punished me with silence? After all, the grass is green.
The lion replied:
- In fact, the grass is green.
The tiger asked:
- So why are you punishing me?
The lion replied:
- That has nothing to do with the question of whether the grass is blue or green.
The punishment is because it is thoughtless, for a brave and intelligent creature like you, to waste time arguing with a donkey, and on top of that come and bother me with that question.
The worst waste of time for you is to argue with a fool and fanatic who does not care about truth or reality, but only the victory of his beliefs and illusions.
Your silence is not a punishment at all.
When ignorance screams, intelligence is silent.
