#ConscriptsAreNotMembers
Absolutely horrific! @shuvmajumdar, hope you read this post.
Issuing over 500 PFLs to former Iranian conscripts just in two days indicates anti-terrorism mottos are just a public show!
Not only are there no pragmatic actions toward that goal, but the gov victims who have been victimized by repressors.
@UCAN_Advocacy Canada promised to protect victims of the IRGC—not punish them.
Yet former Iranian conscripts who had no choice but to complete mandatory military service now face rejections and PFLs.
Why are they being treated as willing IRGC members?
@LenaMetlegeDiab@gary_srp@pfragiskatos
@UCAN_Advocacy Please address the PFLs now being issued to former Iranian mandatory conscripts over compulsory IRGC service. They did not voluntarily join the IRGC or choose their assignment. Canada must distinguish forced conscription from voluntary membership.@Joanne_NL
@UCAN_Advocacy Canada has every right to protect its security by designating the IRGC. But while some former regime insiders face little scrutiny, conscripts who were forced into mandatory service, not members, and have no real connection are being treated as if they’re guilty.
@RamJoubin
@UCAN_Advocacy An Iranian has already lost 2 years of their life to forced military service. They had no choice. Don’t punish them and their families again for where they were forced to serve. Target real, voluntary IRGC ties—not victims of conscription. @MarkJCarney@AliEhsassi
We have spent years building our lives in Canada—working, contributing, following the rules, and believing in fairness.
Now, former mandatory conscripts and their families are receiving PFLs and living through unbearable uncertainty and emotional distress.
We never chose the IRGC. We were conscripts. We are asking Canada to remember the fairness and case-by-case assessment we were promised.
Please don’t let years of our lives and our families’ futures become the price of something we never chose.
@AliEhsassi@esmaeilion@MarkJCarney@UNHumanRights
@UCAN_Advocacy For years, these families have worked, studied, raised their children, and built their future in Canada. Now, many are facing PFLs because of mandatory military service they had no choice in completing.
Isn’t fair?
Families deserve clear answers and a fair process — not fear
