For those confused by the sudden and seemingly coordinated invective against “post-liberalism” and “integralism,” the terms are slogans to mask a neo-Know-Nothing contempt for Catholics. It’s not that they don’t refer to real ideas. But in common harangues, they simply express opposition to Catholics, much as “Zionist” and “Talmudic,” also real and distinct concepts, usually just mean “Jew.”

The problem with prison abolitionism aside from its feasibility is who decides the convict is rehabilitated? Evangelicals? Leftists? Somebody worse? Why should they get to impose their values on somebody else?
american evangelicals (esp quakers) invented modern prison reform. they intended to replace punishment (branding, ear-cropping, hanging) with rehabilitation. the failure of prisons to do so is why american quakers (the AFSC) officially called for prison abolition as early as 1978
Liberal women revert to (legal) censorship when things don’t go their way. Bindel, Suzanne Moore, and other TERF allies of Rowling have advocated have advocated for illiberalism in the name of gender equality for years before they selectively took up the mantle of free speech.
When I was in Istanbul a few months ago I avoided bringing up politics when I interacted with locals. There were a couple instances where locals brought up politics and mentioned her. Both locals saw her as a bellwether that Turkey could move beyond Erdogan.
