What does a mask do? Blocks respiratory droplets coming from your mouth and throat.

Two simple demos:

First, I sneezed, sang, talked & coughed toward an agar culture plate with or without a mask. Bacteria colonies show where droplets landed. A mask blocks virtually all of them.

@Tom_Morgs @sarahtucker68 This is a potential solution, but comes with its own problems.

DIY PPE must still be objectively and quantitatively fit-tested or it could be a potentially dangerous for users.

On the subject of masks, love this by Lee Miller, model turned photographer turned war reporter. If you can, watch the amazing BBC2 documentary about her life, features @lynseyaddario @KarenElson_ https://t.co/bNFMUB7v97 #FireMasks #BottleMask @FarleysHG

While working at the NHS frontline during the COVID lockdown, I designed a #BottleMask prototype which combines a recycled bottle & origami filter. This is an open source project shared early for collaboration to solve a worldwide PPE shortage @BottleMask https://t.co/0SA1zMJyv4
