Final election votes for @cmkshama seem to be out. 24k votes & within 5% of making the general election. This against an incumbent, without a DSA endorsement & a near media blackout is impressive. Doubt any DSA candidate could do much better in that scenario.
@jaaaaanbi 100 years ago, Joe Wrote would literally be one of the main people trying to lock up Rosa Luxemburg and Karl Liebknecht.
We should think of him as such.
@somewheredense@joewrote One video was posted about Melissa Chaudhry, but if they had made countless posts about her, everyone would have said she was bullying an underdog. The only real opponent in the race was Adam Smith.
@somewheredense@joewrote Okay so now you are contradicting yourself again. You're saying we need to explain things, but that you need Marxist theory to explain it. But we need short content.
Zohran isn't even going around teaching people Marxist theory. So what even is this line of argument?
@somewheredense@joewrote You need to understand Marxist theory to know that Boeing, Starbucks, Amazon, and co were going to opposed to $15/hr and that it would take a mass movement of people to win it? Same goes for the Amazon Tax.
So Kshama was supposed to make videos about Jewish people?
@somewheredense@joewrote It's literally not hard. Ordinary working class people aren't stupid. So I don't accept this argument.
You argue that her posts and videos are too long, but then turn around and say that her politics require a lot of explanation. Those two things are contradictory.
@somewheredense@joewrote That's why she harps on the record of her council office, she used the office to build movements that disrupted politics as usual. In every speech, she said she would turn her inauguration into a protest.
Still, it is unspecific. Is there a certain interest group she missed?
@somewheredense@joewrote That's really unspecific. There are lots of people who don't identify as socialist. That's why they had townhalls, to have democratic political discussions about the campaign.
"Not socialist" isn't a voter group.
@somewheredense@joewrote Please share, who did she not approach? She won the endorsement of two Muslim organizations, Alice Walker, Mumia Abu-Jamal, and many long-time Seattle activists. The Stranger and Seattle Gay News interviewed and endorsed her.
@somewheredense@joewrote Rambling? So either your attention span is crap or you have unspoken political disagreements.
You need to recognize Chaudhry was recruited by the Dems to be an anti-Adam Smith spoiler and she split the progressive vote.
@somewheredense@joewrote Idk bro, scroll through her socials, you'll find plenty of clips from previous podcasts.😂This idea that she just didn't do social media and that's why she lost is quite frankly, silly.
@somewheredense@joewrote Melissa Chaudhry was outed as a homophobe and wouldn't even say she supported ending all US military aid to Israel until after her embarrassing interview with the Stranger. She was far from a "lefty."
If you lived in the district, who would you have voted for?
@somewheredense@joewrote And I agree with you on that last sentence, no normal person cares about DSA. But the Palestinian people absolutely do care that the architect of the genocide in Gaza will remain in office.
@somewheredense@joewrote This is objectively untrue. Approval ratings for socialism are rising and approval ratings for the Dems and Republicans are at all time lows.
For such a long shot campaign that was fighting a total blackout by the left, this result was outstanding.
