The "Europeans are poor" thing is a bit overwrought.
Yes, America is wealthier than nearly all European nations, at the median. But Europe is still much wealthier than ~everywhere else.
Gavin Newsom has lost a lot of ground in Democratic primary polls.
It's maybe not any one thing, though Ossoff isn't helping. Conspicuously embracing Biden is a weird choice too.
More fundamentally, he's the avatar of a Democratic establishment that voters want to move beyond.
The American recovery and reinvestment act ignored a lot of the worst instincts of people around him, Dodd-Frank was also good, the ACA was a huge accomplishment, really no matter how you spin that, he also did all this while managing to cut $1 trillion from spending. Overseeing the legalization of gay marriage also was not small.
The country as well was in objectively super good shape when he left office, unemployment was half of what it was during the recession, the deficit had also been halved, the US was undergoing its longest uninterrupted job growth streak in history.
You can have qualms with his foreign policy (I do) but the shape he left the country in should not be ignored/swept under the rug. There’s a reason people are so nostalgic for 2016.
@number_pizza111 I recommend the book The Wounded World by Chad Williams. It describes the process of WEB Du Bois trying (and failing) to write a history of black soldiers in WWI.
It was a lot of letter writing and literal paper organizing. And as you suspect it was often a complete mess.
lots of biden retrospectives focus on gaza or immigration but the student loan forgiveness policy was a complete disaster on both substance and policy and there's been less postmortem analysis of exactly what happened and why
I don't fear AI taking my job, like at all, but it's still very disorienting.
I realized today that, because of AI, I don't feel like I know how to do things anymore.
There are things I learned to do for myself that it now makes more sense to hand off to AI, but the only way to figure out which things those are is through trial and error.
People exaggerate to a ridiculous degree, and the different models all have different pluses and minuses. It's all very confusing.
It leads to this weird feeling of not necessarily knowing the best way to proceed with things I actually have years of experience with.
Software engineering is a weird niche where AI has been insanely effective, but it's not very representative of knowledge work in general.
This leads people in tech to have a hugely distorted view of how impactful current AI is or can be for knowledge work outside of coding.
Platner winning fairly comfortably while meaningfully underperforming the national enviroment would be the perfect outcome to make everyone even more insane.
"Sir Keir won a landslide victory by arguing that all Britain's woes were the fault of Tory incompetence and venality; unfortunately, it turned out he really believed it. He was seemingly surprised to discover that the country suffers from deep-rooted and difficult problems." https://t.co/tzW49nqwyb
It’s time we stop pumping chemicals into the pools our children swim in. Thank you President Trump for introducing my family to the Natural Pool lifestyle. #MAHA
(And yes—The woke neighbor is triggered 🤣)
We're going to say it's an ungovernable country right up until the point that someone actually governs it! Running the UK is more difficult than it is in the past, but I think the flaws Starmer demonstrated in office would have made average, at best, during much easier years.
Plenty of votes in saying the war was a humiliating mistake for the country, though. People desperately wanted it to end because they felt it was a debacle. Very clear line of attack there.
If Chad Gable returns to AAA to help El Grande Americano against Los Perros del Mal, we will actually see a roof physically come off an arena from the POP of the crowd.

Remote work was bad for people living alone
It had no harms for people living with their families (parents)
Remote work should be an explicit benefit you get once you have kids.
So much of 2010s identity politics boiled down to “you should sacrifice your own immediate well-being for the sake of elevating a few members of your group, and thinking of their achievements as your own.”
But I do think we’re all increasingly sick of it now.
Guys the point is that *Trump* not only made a huge deal out of the reflecting pool, the whole MAGA internet specifically touted the lack of algae — now they look like idiots and it’s funny!
