🚨 EU delegation granted access to Chemmani mass grave as tally reaches 454
A delegation from the European Union is to visit the Chemmani mass grave in Jaffna on Wednesday morning, after the Jaffna Magistrate's Court granted permission for the inspection on Monday, in the latest instance of international attention on a site where excavations continue to unearth evidence of atrocity.
The visit comes amid sustained calls from Tamil families, human rights groups and international figures for independent international oversight of the investigation, given long-standing concerns that domestic mechanisms lack the credibility to deliver accountability. The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, visited the site in 2025.
The delegation is expected at the site in the morning, where excavations are continuing under the court-authorised third phase of investigations.
To date, 454 skeletal remains have been found, of which 440 have been fully exhumed.
Human Skeleton No. 429 was identified in a folded-leg seated burial position during today’s excavation.
A similar folded-leg seated burial was also documented during the Phase 2 excavation last year, marking the second such discovery at the Chemmani mass grave site.

Our latest report traces the history of the Chemmani mass grave from the first revelations in the 1990s to the ongoing excavations in 2026. The timeline on page 5 illustrates three decades of witness testimony, forensic evidence, judicial proceedings, renewed discoveries and repeated institutional failures.
Worth recalling the stmt by .@ohchr UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein to @unhrcpr back in 2015 on #srilanka - little has changed re. war accountability in a decade - except the UN's willingness to back domestic courts with tech capacity bldg. #lka
Deeply disturbed by reports that Sonam Wangchuk's health has turned critical during his indefinite fast. No government can remain indifferent while a citizen fighting for justice stands at the brink of losing his life. The Union Government must end its silence, engage in meaningful dialogue, and respond to the legitimate demands for accountability, including comprehensive reforms to the national examination system in the wake of the NEET paper leak crisis. Standing in unwavering solidarity with Sonam Wangchuk and the students in their fight for justice and accountability.

Another welcome step! It should not stop with suspension!
Citizens must see a lot of public servants getting convicted of Corruption charges. Such convictions can become a strong deterrent for other officials.
In the late 90s, when Director Shankar narrated Mudhalvan (1999) script to Vijay, Vijay did not agree since he was too young for such a political heavy subject. The movie was later done with Arjun and became one of all time best political thrillers in Indian Cinema.
Today Vijay as the Chief Minister is doing his best to create the change and impact in reality that the movie had envisioned then in reel. None of the political parties had the guts to take on corruption like Vijay's Govt. in TN's history. Media houses are slowly turning in favour of this war against corruption that they make this news their first page headline so that people become aware of this. In the coming days we will also see many corrupt officers and a few TVK members also getting caught. That is the whole point.

🚨 'We are still searching' - The thirty-year cover-up at Chemmani
A new report from the International Truth and Justice Project (@itjpsl) charts thirty years of state obstruction at Chemmani, where over 400 sets of skeletal remains have now been identified and not one commander has been held criminally accountable, and finds that the officers named by their own convicted subordinates were not prosecuted but promoted, some rising to the highest ranks of the Sri Lankan army.
The report also documents repeated patterns of delay and obstruction, including threats against key witnesses, delayed excavations, allegations of interference with evidence, inadequate investigations, and failures to pursue those most responsible. These patterns have persisted across successive governments.

Day 17 of Sonam Sir’s Hunger-Strike.
He has started losing muscle mass and is in immense pain. Like everyone else, I begged him to end his fast.
He calmly replied, “Don’t ask me to end my fast. Ask the govt why they won’t even have a dialogue.”
