The primal and preeminent question of our time is not about the existence of God. No, our generation asks: “Is there anything to hope for? Is there anything that changes me and the world?”
@RebeccMcLaugh One every five minutes is definitely the minimum. Can't believe that's controversial. Sermon on the mount is one every 10 seconds. But also, that's only 6 illustrations for a normal 30 minute sermon...Isn't insane. What is insane is a listener listen for 10+ without one.
@danitreweek I give similar statements and advice to pastors as well (and I am a pastor) and the majority of pastors refuse to listen to that advice upfront on the basis that "preaching the word should just be the word". Also, many preachers I encounter don't think the listener is important.
Pastors:
You know how when you go to the grocery store you need bags to get the food home? You congregation similarly needs stories & metaphors to bag up what you're teaching. If you don't give them one *at least* every 5 mins, they will tune out & forget your words.
Here is the beautiful paradox: in the collective, we are uniquely known. We are individually claimed, but never alone. Our calling is realized, not through solitary striving, but through shared endeavor.

Nigeria's elimination from World Cup qualifying means eight of the 10 most populous nations will not be at the tournament ❌
With the USA taking a host-nation berth, only one of the 10 countries with the world's biggest populations actually qualified 🤯
"Functional Paganism in Pews" the most haunting thing happening in Christianity today and the last decade has been the subtle embrace of God as a throw in, a morality glue, and a reliable backup. https://t.co/2Q4nMILGdE
