@EvaChanda @rachel8285@DrJenGunter Yeah, I'm autistic, hearing antivaxxers is not only hearing "I don't trust science" but also "autistic people are better off dead"
Allistic folk usually focus on the ignoring science part, but the genocidal hate of autistic people that antivaxxers have is genuinely terrifying
@Koertni i mostly drive under the speed limit when i am especially stressed & need to either try to relax, or just need to put extra effort into driving safe since stressed driving is hazardous 🤔
@PatrickRothfuss so that "light each others candle & keep your own unlit" thing- what if- focus on making "My wick IS their wick" - then they are expending energy trying to believe that their own wick is both on fire and not on fire. Wait for them to paradox themselves out?
@rebeccasugar Was Centipeedle/Nephrite Facet-413 Cabochon-12 upset about, or even aware of, her corrupted gem offspring? Also, was the gem dust scroll from together breakfast ever able to find peace? My autistic brain has never let these questions go no matter how long passes 😭
there are times when I think "I love the art because it's clearly a work of genius, but the creator did a bad thing" and it's a real moral dilemma for me, but harry potter is one of those few times when I truly, genuinely feel that the art is the emperor wearing no clothes
PSA: Picking out clothes can cause social overload for autistics.
Why? We have to decode hidden social rules in order to dress "for the occasion," match our friends, and be "age appropriate." Or whatever that means.
being disabled right now is a lot like being locked in a room while all your friends are playing right outside your window, except they’re all playing with knives & the next part of the game is them coming inside & seeing how close they can throw them at you without hitting you
'Just to play devil's advocate...'
No. My identity doesn't exist to be part of your thoughtless thought experiment. Hypothesising if people like me can or should exist is just bigoted. It's a great way to flag that you're not someone I want to be around.
Hey hey, Buy Nothing Day folks, read this:
"Movements that stress financial restraint to make a statement ignore the fact that impoverished people are forced to refrain from spending money as a matter of survival every day."

So, I have just seen it suggested that ambulatory wheelchair users 'have a choice'.
THAT IS NOT HOW IT WORKS.
We need our wheelchairs.

Just saw a TikTok from a young girl who developed parosmia from COVID - now every single thing she eats or drinks tastes like sewage or gasoline. I don’t know why the dangers of COVID are only framed as life and death, because that sounds like hell to have to live with forever.
Did you know?
In Communication Studies, "Verbal" denotes Words, not Voice. Sign Languages have Words (though they are more commonly called Signs).
"Vocal" would be the counterpart word that denotes Voice.
I'm saying Comm Studies supports signing for verbal components in #dnd
To be clear: CVS didn’t drop CVS vs DOE because they care about disabled peoples lives or human rights, they dropped it cause they got backlash.
But it shouldn’t have been this easy for our lives to be in danger by a corporation. We need more legal protections.
Disability poverty is essential to capitalism.
Capitalism uses myths around people who rely on government assistance to keep us well below the poverty level and give working class people an "enemy" to punch down on.
The myth of "people cheating the system" justifies
My fave part of the autistic brain is how we naturally reject arbitrary hierarchies. Sure we can be trained to "follow the leader", but it's not natural to us to give up our autonomy like that.
I try to introduce this concept to non-autistics & they just...don't seem to get it.
To all 100% speaking non-autistic people:
Not being able to talk is not always a choice.
If you ask how we are because we aren't saying anything, we probably CAN'T say anything.
Don't assume speaking is a choice for us.
