Our Head of Customer Relations presented some recent work with our device at the @IntlNeuromod meeting in Lisbon, Portugal this past week! Great job Andrew!
Big news: we’ve received ~$1.2M from @DeptVetAffairs with @BrownUniversity to launch a clinical trial of low-intensity focused ultrasound for PTSD.
Unless I am mistaken, this is a milestone for the first @VAResearch award to support low intensity focused ultrasound neuromodulation research.
As you know, PTSD remains unacceptably prevalent among our Veterans and society, and many existing treatments provide only partial relief. This study will examine whether noninvasive, image-guided FUS can safely and effectively modulate the amygdala, which is that deep brain region central to threat processing, fear learning, salience, and PTSD symptoms.
In this randomized, sham-controlled dose-finding trial, Veterans with PTSD will receive varying treatment schedules over four weeks to determine the optimal dose to improve their symptoms and function, alongside brain-based biomarkers to explain treatment response. We anticipate recruitment will start in the late summer or early fall.
This study builds on our now-completed first-in-human amygdala FUS study supported by @NIH_Innovates@BBRFoundation@FUSFoundation , with results to be presented at @SOBP and other meetings soon.
