Can You Resist Tyranny?

The average person today is incapable of governing themselves, which is why so many yearn for a new “system.”

They desire an external imposition of control to order their lives in a way they feel incapable of doing for themselves.

Riddled with fear, they trade liberty for protection. Ideology recasts their resentment as righteousness. Loneliness drives them to find a herd to become one with. Internal chaos creates a demand for imposed order.

When you tell people that the answer to collective madness is not collective action in the opposite direction, they often mistake this for rolling over and accepting defeat.

But chaos does not defeat chaos. As Friedrich Nietzsche pointed out, “Madness is something rare in individuals — but in groups, parties, peoples, and ages, it is the rule.”

Think about every hero story you’ve ever admired. The hero doesn’t take to the streets and try to convince everyone of his cause. Rather, he confronts evil head-on and puts himself in the line of fire.

A well-ordered individual is not harmless or ineffectual. A single competent, strong, and courageous person can carry more weight and value than a mob of NPCs.

As Carl Jung said, “a million zeros do not add up to one.”

Nor does being well ordered mean being harmless or indiscriminately nice.

Such a person must possess strength, aggression, ambition, judgement, competitive instinct, the capacity for force, and the desire for achievement.

The question is what these qualities serve. Money, power, and lust, or love, family, and God?

It is precisely this type of person who is the antidote to tyranny.

If no strong internal ordering principle exists, a movement, leader, ideology, or State will fill the vacuum externally.

This is not the only step, but it is the first and necessary one.

No one looking for a solution to increasing social insanity can afford to overlook it. All others are contingent on it.

The answer is not to dissociate from the world and simply pull yourself together.

It is that a disordered individual cannot possibly bring order to his environment.

By becoming a man of virtue, he can then carry that order into the roles individuals occupy: father, teacher, pastor, judge, journalist, leader, neighbour, police officer, and citizen.

Are weak people less likely to find truth?

It would seem the strong ask: "Is this true?"

While the weak ask: "Will I be safe if I believe this?"

If COVID, the 2008 financial collapse, and the net-zero charade taught us anything, it is that the age of blind deference to experts is over.

Titles and credentials mean little when the institutions that grant them are incompetent, unaccountable, and no longer trusted by the people they claim to serve.

WHY HARDWORKING, GOD-FEARING PEOPLE STILL SUFFER — APOSTLE JOSHUA SELMAN

There is a question that honest believers ask in private but rarely dare to voice in church — "I did everything right. I prayed, I obeyed, I worked hard, I stayed faithful. So why is my life still looking like this?" If that question has ever crossed your mind, this post is not here to give you a cliché answer. It is here to give you the truth. And the truth starts with something uncomfortable but profoundly liberating: all men, even at their very best, are limited.

Psalm 103:14 says God "remembers that we are dust." That is not an insult from heaven — it is an honest description. Jeremiah 10:23 says, "O Lord, I know that the way of man is not in himself. It is not in man who walks to direct his steps." No matter how visionary you are, there are aspects of your destiny that will never be revealed through research, intelligence, or determination alone. They will only come through the help of God. Joseph knew he was destined for greatness. But how he would get there? That was a mystery that only divine help could navigate.

The second reason godly, hardworking people still struggle is what can be called human factors — sentiments, biases, injustice, and greed. You can score a hundred percent in the promotion interview and still be passed over because someone doesn't like where you come from. A brilliant young man can build something remarkable with his own hands and still go nowhere, simply because no one knows him. Meanwhile someone with half the skill and none of the discipline is celebrated because of who they know. This is not confusion. This is the world.

The third reason is the one most believers are not prepared to confront directly — Satan is real, alive, and strategic. He is not sitting idle. He is visionary with a project, and that project has your name on it. When God was revealing the blueprint of your destiny, you were not the only one listening. Satan had the verdict too. He heard that you were called to be a deliverer, a builder, a financier of the Kingdom — and he has been patient. He can wait thirty years while you grow. The day you step into purpose is often the day strange resistance begins.

Understanding these three realities — your human limitation, the wickedness of human factors, and the determination of demonic forces — is not meant to make you afraid. It is meant to make you intelligent. The race is not to the swift. The battle is not to the strong. It is God showing men mercy. And intelligent believers don't just pray harder. They pray smarter. They cry out for timely, significant, targeted help from the God who has never lost a case.

And now... the rest of the story.

Every year, families across America gather around the television.

They watch a bald kid try to kick a football. A beagle dance on a dog house. Charlie Brown get a rock instead of candy.

They laugh.

They don't know they're watching a man's autobiography.

When Charles Schulz was a boy, the other children called him Sparky. The name of a horse in a comic strip. A joke horse.

He failed every single subject in eighth grade.

Not one or two.

Every. Single. Subject.

But the grades weren't the worst part.

Paul Harvey told this story, and his voice cracked on this line:

"Sparky wasn't actually disliked by the other youngsters. No one cared enough about him to dislike him."

He wasn't hated. He was nothing.

The one thing he had was his drawings. He submitted cartoons to the school yearbook.

Rejected.

He wrote to Walt Disney. Poured everything into the drawings.

The reply was a form letter. Disney only hired the very finest artists. Sparky was not among the very finest.

Harvey paused there. Then: "I think deep down, Sparky expected to be rejected."

This is where the motivational speakers lie to you.

The rest of the story isn't about winning.

Sparky didn't try to prove them wrong. He wrote his autobiography in cartoons.

He drew himself. The loser. The kid who failed everything.

He named him after himself.

Charlie Brown.

You know what Charlie Brown never does?

Win.

His kite crashes. Lucy pulls the football. The Little Red-Haired Girl doesn't notice him.

And sixty years later, we still watch.

Not because Charlie Brown succeeds.

Because Charlie Brown keeps showing up.

Here's the part even Paul Harvey didn't tell.

Schulz taught Sunday school. He read the Bible so constantly his strips are filled with scripture.

When network executives tried to cut Linus reciting Luke 2 from the Christmas special, Schulz refused.

Either the Gospel stays, or there's no special.

It stayed.

A boy called a horse.

A student who failed everything.

An artist Disney rejected.

Planted the Gospel of Luke in front of sixty million homes.

The loser became the messenger.

God has a history of using the rejected ones.

Moses had a stutter. David was the forgotten son. Peter denied Him three times.

The kite never flew.

But the Gospel did.

Still falling?

Good company, brother.

Get up.

He's not done with you yet.

WHAT THEY DID TO ANDREW AND TRISTAN TATE ON SUNDAY

Andrew and Tristan Tate remain in the Special Housing Unit (SHU) at FDC Miami. They have seen the sun only four times since July 18th.

On Sunday, guards deployed OC spray in the SHU. My clients, Andrew and Tristan Tate, had nothing to do with the incident. They were locked in their cells when it happened.

The guards had gas masks. Andrew and Tristan, however, were afforded no such luxury. Locked in a cell with nowhere to go, the chemical spray quickly filled the SHU, poured into their cells, and burned their eyes, throats, and airways.

To protect themselves, Andrew and Tristan wet their T-shirts in the shower and wrapped their eyes and heads in the shirts as best they could.

The Bureau of Prisons' own regulation demands immediate medical examination and treatment. The Department of Justice's own manual says the first aid for this chemical is fresh air and copious amounts of cool water. Andrew and Tristan received no air, no water, no doctor, and no nurse.

Two men convicted of no crime in any country on Earth wrapped wet T-shirts around their faces, sat in a chemical cloud, and waited.

You do not have to take my word for it. Two hours later, my co-counsel Tom Maniotis arrived at the facility for a legal visit. The air was still so toxic that his eyes burned and he struggled to breathe. Thomas cut the meeting short and agreed to come back in two hours to give time for the chemicals to clear out.

Thomas went to our apartment and washed his face and hands. He returned to the SHU a second time, where the meeting had to be cut short because his eyes were irritated and his throat was burning. So much so that he went straight from the jail to urgent care, where he was diagnosed with acute toxic conjunctivitis, a chemical injury to his eyes.

That diagnosis is on paper, from a hospital. Think about what I am saying. Thomas' short-term exposure sent him straight to urgent care. Andrew and Tristan have been stuck in the SHU since this incident happened without medical care or decontamination protocol of any kind.

They sit in that cell over no American charge and no broken rule. They sit there because the United Kingdom, which watched them travel freely for three years and did nothing, suddenly demanded their arrest.

Instead of the safekeeping the law requires, Andrew and Tristan are being horribly punished. Four hours of sunlight in three weeks, bunks too short for their bodies, no pillows, legal meetings in rooms monitored by cameras, and now a chemical agent in their cells with no help afterward.

The Supreme Court says a man awaiting trial may not be punished at all. England's own law says a man jailed before trial is held for safe custody and not for punishment. Every rule forbids what is happening inside that building, and it is happening anyway.

On Thursday, August 13, a federal judge in Miami will hear our motion for Andrew and Tristan's release. If you care about justice and the right of all American citizens not to be punished this way, then you must speak out.
