Being cancelled by corporate media is a tribute to Greta's stepping up to fight empire, oligarchy & capitalism. These are all drivers of climate collapse. Can't fix one without fixing them all.

As @GretaThunberg makes her way to #Gaza aboard the ‘Madleen,’ the #FreedomFlotillaCoalition continues to honor the promise we made to the Palestinians in Gaza back in 2008: to sail until Israel’s illegal siege is broken.
Greta's powerful message reminds us that climate justice and social justice are inseparable. The ongoing violence in Gaza, fueled by the machinery of war, not only perpetuates genocide but also contributes to the global climate crisis. The fossil fuels required for military operations, combined with the environmental destruction caused by warfare, intensify climate change.
The conduct of war accelerates the loss of biodiversity, contaminates vital water sources, causes soil erosion, and destroys agricultural land. Bombing and shelling devastate ecosystems, polluting air, water, and soil with hazardous materials like depleted uranium and chemicals. We cannot accept a world that allows such human rights violations and environmental destruction to continue unchecked. Now is the time to demand accountability and stand up for justice, both for Palestine and for the planet.

Asked by Al Jazeera what the “worst scenario” @GazaFFlotilla could face is, @GretaThunberg responds that the worst scenario is if the world allows Israel to continue its siege and genocide. Drones buzzing constantly as ship is a day’s sail from Gaza
You, aboard the Madleen, are not sailing alone.
The breath of Gaza rides with you,
a lullaby of longing, a roar against the siege.
Each wave you cross unravels a chain,
each gust of wind carries our prayers.

The Madleen ship is now only a short distance north of Alexandria from reaching Gaza’s shores. With every mile closer, the danger intensifies—and the moment of truth approaches.
Keep them in your prayers, they need your support!

The Madleen is very close to Gaza, only some hours away. Right now they are off the coast of Egypt.
Please, keep your attention on the Madleen.
@GazaFFlotilla We are proud of you and we hope to meet you in Gaza 🙏🇵🇸🙏
“We are watching a systematic starvation of 2 million people. A live-streamed genocide and the world's silence is deadly. That is why we have to keep trying everything we can, even if the odds are against us.”

Georgia Tech researcher looking at energy consumption data on cryptocurrency @jyn_urso told me that #Bitcoin mining companies are “starting to see that this kind of research can help them too.” Reporting yesterday for @insideclimate (14/15) https://t.co/EpjBCUU3wL
Adding to the discussion on #Bitcoin mining, the #Texas grid, noise pollution, and latest moves by the EIA to gather data, there are a few points in the reporting that I want to highlight. Here's a thread on my reporting this week for @insideclimate and @TexasTribune (1/15)
As scientists, we are increasingly being asked to tell the public the truth about the crises we face in simple and direct terms. The truth is that we are shocked by the ferocity of the extreme weather events in 2023. We are afraid of the uncharted territory that we have now entered.
This summed up our experience of 2023, as it happened.
It's been an honor to be part of this crucial research, led by the great @WilliamJRipple and Christopher Wolf.

Guatemala's 🇬🇹 rapidly growing #PalmOil industry has stripped thousands of subsistence farmers of their land.
Certification is also failing to significantly slow #deforestation rates in the country - now the third-largest palm oil producer in the world.
