@BrandonTremble4 I agree! It's certainly a beneficial regulation to have if you are a Canadian artist. The quota will definitely give Canadian artists a chance to be heard on radio stations. #MUS2011W21
I agree with the initial regulation of CanCon since there was a concern with the airtime of Canadian music. As Canadian artists gained popularity over the last 40 years, I don't think there's a need to enforce a regulation anymore. #MUS2011W21
@AndrewTuck11 Great point Andrew! Everyone has their own unique music taste. People may love to hear live covered versions of pop songs and appreciate the artist's work. #MUS2011W21
@RileyHogan4 I agree! Cover bands sometimes use a different style or different instruments to create their own version of the original song #MUS2011W21
I disagree with Wald's statement. The unique atmosphere that radiates from a live music performance is unmatched. IMO this generalization isn't accurate. #MUS2011W21
@Mitchell_White7#MUS2011W21 I agree as well! Schlock music certainly rubbed original artists the wrong way. However, it is hard not to dismiss schlock music because it had a significant impact on the popular music industry.
#MUS2011W21 Schlock artists practiced cultural thief and altered original music to gain in popularity with the middle-class without giving proper credit to the original. IMO if an original song was "cleaned" for a audience, it was termed schlock rock regardless of talent.
@AlbertN57089769 #MUS2011W21 This is a good point about exposure! This can even extend to popular artists today that either sample or work with other artists who may be unknown/less popular.
@annieskinnerr#MUS2011W21 You can definitely hear the emotion and passion in his voice when he sings, which is what made him such a unique artist. His breakthrough still influences music artists today.
@FrancoP49029007#MUS2011W21 on the theme of sampling, Kanye and Jay-Z also sampled Otis Redding's "Try A Little Tenderness" (Redding was another soul artist covered in this course) in their song "Otis". While listening to the original song, I was surprised when I realized Ye and Jay used it too
#MUS2011W21 In my opinion, Ray Charles' breaking voice is what made him so unique. His vocal range & emotion that he utilized when he performed instantly segregated himself from other artists. His sound is difficult to re-create and helped him stand out.
@Makayla95815534#MUS2011W21 I remember when I had binders of various CDs and had to play them through my stereo. I had to skip numerous songs until I found the one I liked. Phones/Streaming services have made it so much easier!
#MUS2011W21 I believe music streaming platforms has changed music accessibility. We can create our own individual playlists which details what genres we are into. Instead of buying an entire album, we can pick and choose which songs we enjoy listening to.
