@ekphelan#MUS2011W21 I see where you are coming from but why can't both quality and the quota be met at the same time? Yes CanCon forces a quota but it does still allow the station to use good quality content. It just enforces that a portion of that content is Canadian
@Ellis20Liam Hey Liam, I think you need to look at the bigger picture. It is not just about one person's favourite artist, it is about allowing the growth of new rising artists by enforcing stations to provide a variety and find the 'diamond in the rough' song or artist. #MUS2011W21
I think it is rules like CanCon are very important to enforce as it helps to promote local and unique artists. If stations only played popular artists and songs most artists will rise from higher populated areas rather than rising for their quality of content. #MUS2011W21
@Brandon84648574 I sort of agree, there is nothing like being in the middle of a live concert, however, the quality of music received at a concert is generally lower than a recording because they have only one chance to perform when they can restart if they make a mistake in recording #MUS2011W21
@AlbertN57089769 I agree with you Albert, with all the different styles artists use to spice up their music makes it much more difficult for a band to cover and as well, the majority of classic rock songs have much more simplicity to their music style allowing bands to cover it easier #MUS2011W21
#MUS2011W21 I don't agree with Wald's statement. In many ways, the recording of the song should be the best possible outcome of the song. But people will gladly see a cover band if that band is good at what they do and are able to put their own twist, as it can be beautiful.
@nathandunne31#MUS2011W21 I agree with you Nathan, There are so many artists that are considered "Schlock" that use covers of songs to develop their range and show their audience how versatile they are. Doing covers provides the opportunity to expand without also needing to create a new song
@brittanyboone#MUS2011W21 I see where you are coming from Brittany, I think "schlock" music has been generalized a bit too much. To the point where yes, there are less musically talented individuals, but there are also many that are beyond talented but are labelled "Schlock"
#MUS2011W21 Cover songs are viewed as "schlock" because it can be seen as a cheap knockoff of the original. But cover songs can provide a view into a whole new genre of music using the same lyrics, if done right this can sound better than the original!
@PardyHayden#MUS2011W21 I feel you Hayden! Through Ray Charles' Songs you can feel his emotions behind his lyrics, he helps to create such a deep connection with his audience that most artists can only dream of!
@AndrewTuck11#MUS2011W21 You bring up some great points Andrew, I agree that he has really provided a unique contribution to shaping the future of country music!
#MUS2011W21
Ray Charles seemed to use a breaking voice to help him provide more emphasis in his song, running almost like a train engine to provide a style of song unique to its time
@JoshAdams131 I agree with you Josh! The Ipod was def provided the needed push to kick off streaming services, Apples music store basically had no competitors for a long while. I remember frequently buying albums on the istore when I was only looking for one specific song! #MUS2011W21
@Rebecca23197149 I completely agree with you Rebecca! When I was a kid I would walk around the house with my cd player being ever so careful not to knock it or the track would skip, now its at our fingertips everywhere we go!
#MUS2011W21 Pt1.Streaming Services have been one of the best innovations for the individualization people want with their music. Everyone can tune into a radio show while SS give the option of creating your own playlists while being able to keep them private or share with friends
