Welcome to Breaking Scrub: conversations about the lives of surgeons. We write. We paint. We coach. What do you do when you break scrub? Host @smstreit
Oh hey y’all! Thanks for sticking with me in the off season. I am currently researching new season theme ideas. Season 1 was millennials in surgery.
What do y’all want to hear/talk about in season 2? Who should I be talking to next?
Hey, y’all! How ya been?
My next featured podcast is Nancy from @wnyc. Nancy features queer stories of all kinds and is also a great resource for anyone who considers themselves an ally.

During the off-season, I’ll be highlighting some other (mostly non-medical) podcasts.
I love all-things @marketplace and the new series #thisisuncomfotable by @reemahrais is really making me think. The most recent episode is on crying at work- needed to hear it 9 years ago....
Thanks so much for everyone who supported me during Season 1! I’m taking a break to work on building a new trauma program... and my hockey skills. Keep sending episode idea my way, though!
Interesting new podcast from an Air Force trauma surgeon: @BreakingScrub - When I break scrub my focus is family and getting outside, ideally combining the two like my 250 mile JMT hike with my wife last summer. Thankful to be a resident in beautiful NorCal at @UCDavis_Surgery
Season Finale of Season 1 goes live tomorrow! Listen to @saranimd, @laurie_punch, @TraumaDawg and several others talk about how they feel the millennial generation is changing surgery.
Listen in and let me know what you think!

True story: I never memorized the Krebs' cycle. I refused out of stubbornness but also the recognition that it was a true waste of time. What else are we wasting time doing? What should we be learning instead?
Tune in tomorrow where we talk podcasting and creating the content you want to hear with @physiciansguide. We are creating space for the other and exploring "everything we should have learned while we were memorizing the Krebs' cycle."

@WomenSurgeons That must be why I like the trauma room to stay at max temp... 😜
I can’t figure an evolutionary explanation for this. Their fashion-based explanation is probably as deep as it goes.
🙄🙄🙄
Our degrees establish us for our careers. I got married at 30 because I wanted to and no other reason.
Crippling student debt is the result of our country’s misplaced priorities, not the fault of millennial women.
Millennials are the first gen of women to reject marriage to instead pile up degree upon degree, resulting in debt that, while supposed to help them get established for marriage, instead dealt them a cruel blow: They can't afford to.
