It was 36 years ago today that I received my first Test Cap as player number 192 for India. Taking the wicket of Allan Lamb was the start of a truly special journey, one that I cherish deeply to this day.
I am incredibly grateful for this journey and everyone who has been a part it. 🙏🏽

Today, Thiruvananthapuram bade farewell to one of its bravest sons. Rajesh, whose heroic final act on the Tejasvi River has moved all of Kerala, was brought home and cremated, mourned by family, friends, and the countless people whose lives he touched and, in so many cases, saved.

I knew Rajesh personally and saw first hand the energy, warmth, and utter selflessness he brought to everything he did. The man who handed his own life jacket to a stranger in raging floodwaters was the same man who saved many lives in the 2018 floods and who rushed to Wayanad after the 2024 landslides, always ready to put himself at risk for others.

He asked nothing for himself in life. In death, we owe him this much: that his wife Lakshmi and his children are not left to face the future alone. I urge the government to extend every possible support to his family, and I will do all I can from my side as well.

Farewell, Rajesh. Your courage will outlive us all. Om Shanti.

It’s incredibly tough to process that Sir Garry is gone. I’ve been looking back at the memories we shared over the years, from him handing me the Player of the Tournament trophy at the 2003 World Cup, to his warm words when he felicitated me for the century milestone. He was always so exceptionally gracious.

My mind keeps going back to when we caught up in London a few years ago. We were just sitting and chatting about the game, and it hits me so hard right now that it was the last time we’d ever meet.

He truly was the ‘One and Only’. Going to miss him immensely. Rest in peace, Sir Garry.

Beyond his achievements on the field, Shapoor Zadran was a true source of inspiration for many young Afghan cricketers and for cricket followers across the world. His fighting spirit, determination, and love for the game gave hope to many and encouraged a generation to dream bigger and believe in the future of Afghanistan cricket.

The Afghanistan Cricket Board extends its heartfelt condolences and deepest sympathies to his family, friends, loved ones, former teammates, and the entire Afghan cricket community. His loss is deeply felt, and his memory will forever remain alive in the hearts of the people of Afghanistan and the cricketing world.
