Gabriel Brener and the other minority owners are ruining the @HoustonDynamo. Sell your stakes to Ted Segal and be done with it. #BrenerOut#FireMattJordan
Final thought: if Nagamura is our head coach, fine. But if Ted Segal doesn't buy him a couple high-level (talking Vela/Ibra range) DPs this January, we're going to finish last again. So Ted, let's please walk the walk now that we've talked the talk.
@MattDoyle76@Sinskiman @gooblyn_ @MLS Matt, we know you don't pay attention to the Dynamo, but classifying Corey Baird as a potential "breakout player" in 2023 is just lazy journalism. There are players who were on the roster last year (to say nothing of winter reinforcements) who fit the bill better
This thread is a) probably the best take Doyle's ever had and b) exactly why the Dynamo have never been competitive during the 3 DP era. Galaxy brain move to waste DP slots on defenders and defensive midfielders while other teams are using them on number 10s.
My two tweet-length take: classic 10s have gone out of fashion at the very top of the game, but thrive one tier down because having one central chance creating genius is still a really good way of building a really good team.
@andrew_wiebe@MLS Traditional rivals are Dallas, KC, and to an extent Galaxy, so can't be them. But Portland has the most self-righteous and annoying fanbase in the league and they're owned by an entitled rich kid so my vote goes to them.
@tombogert Further wants include a better right-footed CB, a true attacking midfielder that could play the #10 role (U22?), and a right winger so Thor can spell Sebas instead of playing out of position.
Btw I think Raines will be exclusively the #6 backup, taking Ceren's old minutes.
Source on Ivan Franco to Houston Dynamo deal. Houston Dynamo have an option to make that transfer permanent for $3.5 million.
According to @Transfermarkt, that would make him the second most expensive signing in club history should the club trigger that option.
Great move if he can stay healthy. Per LAFC's website he does not use an international slot.
Still think we need a starting-level CB and a U22 attacking midfielder, but this roster is coming together nicely.
Sources confirm: Houston Dynamo finalizing the signing of free agent defender Franco Escobar.
Escobar, 27, won MLS Cup with Atlanta United in 2018 then LAFC last year. He has made 82 MLS appearances. Escobar a right back or a right CB in a back three.
I'm excited for this one, he's largely unproven but I think the chemistry with Sebas will lift the whole attack, and we needed a dynamic winger. And if nothing else, our team's hair game is now solidified as the best in the league
@webtilton I don't understand why we didn't re-sign him - cheap, decent play for a backup LB who can moonlight as a CB if needed. Wonder where he's off to next, or if he even continues with soccer.
Sources: Houston Dynamo finalizing the signing of free agent left back Brad Smith.
Smith, 28, was with D.C. United last year before a season-ending injury. Has made 79 MLS apps with DC and the Seattle Sounders.
The Australian int’l was previously with Liverpool and Bournemouth.
Now that Franco is confirmed, we should look at signing Ismael Tajouri-Shradi to further bolster the wings.
Lots of injury concerns, but he's a quality player when healthy and would instantly elevate the attack. Made $648K guaranteed in 2022. Make it happen @PatOnstad
Ismael Tajouri-Shradi did the last part of his rehab with SAT Soccer in Miami as he prepares for the 2023 season.
Tajouri-Shradi, 28, is a free agent. He missed most of 2022 with injury but has 28g/9a in his MLS career (90 apps, 49 starts).
@juaresam @tombogert It's fake. Not surprised to see random outlets linking random Mexican players to Houston after we signed HH, but we have no open DP spots and Raul would not be a TAM player (plus, we don't need a starting striker, that's the one position we actually have set for the future)
@ClutchSoccer@HoustonDynamo No, that source is terrible, and is mostly an oddly detailed account of the amenities Raul's condo would have were he to move to Houston.
This is a good signing, I would be much more confident going into the season if we could sign a similar caliber of player for the right wing.
Ultimately, it'll come down to how well the HH-Coco-Artur midfield trio works, and how well Bartlow or Steres can replace Parker.
The Houston Dynamo have reached an agreement to sign Paraguay international Ivan Franco from Libertad, per sources. Not 100% done but advanced. Franco likely won't be a DP.
On that and much, much more in a new Insider Notebook
