@BBradley_Mans I'm a Labour voter from Bassetlaw but as a primary school teacher I can empathise with the point you were (clumsily) trying to make. Genuinely/cynically interested to know what those rates were like pre 2010 austerity and what beyond FSM you are doing to support that community?
@Lenehenahan @BenWhyler @Chris_Cunno Innit. Hate to admit it but SAGE affiliate Prof Robert Dingwall's article in that most trustworthy publication the daily mail yday offered some stats that may suggest it's not as doomy and gloomy as it looks (๐ค). Read it without boosting their ad revenue https://t.co/dD0PEN6wTL
@loumay48 https://t.co/LVxPaN4CXL you believe what you want, as long as people reading this are aware it's just a dangerous lie being spread by far right. There are some videos but the guy was punched in throat not stabbed. Stop spreading hate. โค
Last week there was no mention of โa small minorityโ when it was a very small minority. This week itโs โa small minorityโ when in fact it was anything but.
@Lordbrexit1@RichardBurgon https://t.co/LVxPaN4CXL Met police have confirmed there was no incident. I didn't want people to think it was true as I did at first. Stop spreading hate. โค
@akalamusic as a fan, teacher, and white bloke, I just want to say thanks for raising the profile of colonial history. I'm sure you're one amongst many but personally, you've opened my eyes to it, I've opened the eyes of my peers and now it's being discussed nationally. ๐๐ป
@tomholder OK complexity but I don't get the argument. 'Whitewashing history' is doublespeak, removing a statue doesn't remove objective history, it would stop outwardly celebrating an abhorrent white supremacist, no matter what 'good things' he may have done. Jimmy Savile's charity work...
@tomholder Does his philanthropy excuse him? Genuine question - inform me. If not the statue should be removed as it's deeply offensive, it can be replaced with a plaque and the powerful images such as we had y'day will educate, express solidarity and spark culture change. #RhodesMustFall
@tomholder Maybe, but for the informed the legacy of these protests will hopefully be a national conversation about teaching the aspects of British history enshrined by Colston and Rhodes more explicitly in our schools, to remove the cancer of ignorance and hypocracy at our core.
@tomholder Yesterday's news stories have taught the world about Bristol's legacy of slavery, reaching far more minds than any plaque could. When Rhodes is similarly removed we'll teach the world, not only about this vile man's actions but how they sustained western institutions.
Starting a thread of companies who posted black squares who rely on slavery. Let me know if see anymore and Iโll tell where their 8-year-old slaves live.
