@Audie432#so345
this is so true, its sad but you have to wonder what would have happened had more authority figures in the boys lives been more supportive
@jfry0618 I agree, so many people have pointed out flaws in the system and not offered solutions to it but Rios directly specified issues that needed to be fixed, why, and ways to correct this for future generations #so345
I think the final chapter of Punished really shows the negative consequences of treating others based on the assumptions you form about them, if the police would have just never assumed the boys would cause issues and give them hell for it they likely would be better off #so345
@EmmaS80516 I think you bring up a point that we talked about several times throughout the semester in that people often live up to the images other have of them whether this be good or bad images #so345
@EmmaS80516 this part really stuck with me as well, when I typically think of men trying to show off their masculinity i think of muscle cars and big loud trucks but i didnt previously think of the disparity of showing masculinity through social classes #so345
@km51967686 Your post reminded me of what happened between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard I think their situaation really shed light on gender violence against both genders since it really isnt publicised often #so345
@LVso345 I think you bring up an interesting question, I did not consider this before but I agree it is very possible that their tendency to do the things that they do even if it gets them in trouble is because they want to feel more of anything positive even if its bad long term #so345
@szazycki This is an amazing point, it is pretty ridiculous that the authority figures in the book are unable to tell that the kids feel like they have to be in a gang to feel safe because the system fails them daily #so345
@SydneyGso345 this is a really sad but true point, when I was reading about that, I could not stop thinking about a video I saw once of a young black man talking about how they notice when people grab their purses tighter when they are close or lock the doors of their car right away #so345
@JeremyS16729088 Exactly! I think people forget that those who deviate or even are just labled as deviant are still humans with feelings that still can take things to heart. Its interesting that even when shaming a devaint people are activley deviating themselves #so345
@EmmaS80516 thats an interesting point you just made, I think part of what makes that so bad too is that we are all aware that bottling things up makes the emotions harder to manage too so they are willing to put themselves at risk for their image #so345
A person of a minority race gets pulled over for the same thing not only do they feel it necessary to put hands on the dash to prove they arent a threat but they also may be searched for something in the car and most likely get a large ticket when the other is free to go(2)#so345
The power dynamic between the saints and the roughnecks made me think of white privilege specifically in relation to how getting pulled over causes different races to act, a white person can get pulled over for extreme speeding and drive away with a warning and if (1) #so345
I find it interesting that in so many situations your social class and career opportunities are synonymous. During the reading I was thinking of being a racecar driver & how it is nearly impossible to do if you don't have the money to fund the beginning stages #so345
@sbren345 this chain was really interesting to read because it begs the question of why do so many people push to not care about other peoples opinions if it is so often important in forming an accurate social identity and self concept #so345
It's interesting to think of how social identity is formed when considering body dismorphia just because the individual strugling can have such a vastly skewed vision of themselves that other can not see or understand #so345
I just found it interesting how quickly everyone fell into their roles in Zimbardo's study, it wasnt like he hired method actors to be in the study but prctically everyone fully committed to their roles regardless of how wrong it was or how uncomfortable it became #so345
@bgbgw2431 perfectly said, I was thinking back to the ponopticon which also seemed to demonstrate too much authority but because of this caused people to stop deviating versus having too much authority and deviating because of that #so345
