🔥 An Excelsior Nearly Beat the Defiant in #StarTrek!

Did you know an Excelsior-class starship nearly defeated the USS Defiant?

And this wasn't even close to a normal Excelsior. In 2372, the USS Lakota had received a massive tactical refit. Its weapons had been substantially upgraded…

and Starfleet had even equipped this decades-old starship design with QUANTUM TORPEDOES. Then the Lakota was ordered to intercept the USS Defiant. On paper? You'd probably bet on the Defiant.

It was small, incredibly manoeuvrable, equipped with pulse phaser cannons, ablative armour and designed specifically for combat. But when the two ships started fighting…

Lakota absolutely hammered it. The Defiant's ablative armour was one of the major reasons it survived the engagement. But the Defiant hit back just as hard, leaving both ships badly damaged.

Neither crew ultimately wanted to destroy the other, and the battle ended when Lakota stood down. But think about what this means. Starfleet took a design from Kirk's era… and upgraded it enough to threaten the USS Defiant.
