Have telehealth consult with a Canadian next week for an IR procedure that’s been around for decades. Our turn around from initial contact to performing this specific procedure is about 6 weeks. Shorter with a motivated patient. I’m curious to hear why they are seeking care in the states.
A decade or two from now, I fear (hope) someone will analyze the negative effect this tidal wave of bullshit about AI imminently replacing Radiologists will have on our profession. And being pushed by people who don’t understand the complexities of delivering care to real patients, nor the complexities of image analysis and interpretation. I can’t go two minutes on social media without reading another dramatic and mind blowing advancement that someone just witnessed with AI and Radiology. If even 1% of it were true we would be out of a job tomorrow. Instead I’ll get six text messages from recruiters this coming week in desperate need of a human being to read studies on real patients right now with their own two eyes. That’s the real truth.
@cordyceps12@theblanketdog@DrSuneelDhand Yes. We know. He is a doctor. We use AI. The point is that the hype of AI is so far ahead of reality. And there are real concerns and ultimately consequences for its rapid deployment that is being pushed by all sorts of different people, many of whom are not physicians.
Today I have been feeling like the Matrix is crumbling. How do you combat this? Personally, I took a walk down to the park, hopped out on a rock in the James River, and turned it all off for a few minutes.
Buddy of mine with no insurance needs an ultrasound. A simple one at that. Called around for him. University hospital charges $4000 with estimated 40% off for cash pay. Same ultrasound down the street at the private imaging center is $123 cash pay. Know the radiologists reading these studies at both sites are excellent. Mind boggling.
@theblanketdog@DrDiGiorgio Many of us knew we wanted to be physicians early on. Wish we the option for an expedited but tailored pathway, undergrad and med school combined, total 6 years rather than 8.
Peer to peer call for insurance approval. Not my peer. Doesn’t have my clinical note. Asks me questions completely unrelated to the patient’s clinical scenario.
What am I doing with my life?
