There is absolutely nothing on Earth that can prepare you for the experience of having a parent with dementia. What seemed like gradual changes at first become more frequent, conversations will never be exactly the same, but it's probably the difference in the way his eyes look some days, just so distant or confused... But I know he's still in there, the man who loved me first...who never missed a game or event, who came straight from work to join me on a dirt court in the back yard to play HORSE or a little one-on-one while still in his boots; The person I called when I was ready to move back home from Memphis; the man who gave me everything even tho I'd later learn, there were times he didn't have it. He'd always say "That's my job" with a patient and loving smile. I'm becoming more and more thankful for the good days. And yesterday was one of those. ❤️
