As PM Abiy returns from the Africa-Saudi Summit, many observers are reporting that he is regionally isolated. Others report that the PM may reconsider Ethiopia's contribution of troops to Somalia in the fight against Alshabab. The Somali public opinion, however, overwhelmingly does not want Ethiopian role whatsoever in Somalia's fight against Alshabab. By far, Somalis would rather see PM Abiy pull out of Somalia all his troops asap. No Somali that I know thanks Ethiopia for its role in troops contribition. Rather, they beleive 🇪🇹 is there for a sinister goal, not to help Somali but sabotage its recovery.

The complete video and transcript of the @SomaliPM @HamzaAbdiBarre statement have been viewed by members of Congress. Before the news publicly broke, we spent the weekend making it clear to members that the Prime Minister's statement does not reflect the sentiment of the Somali people and should not hinder US financial and military support for @Somalia.

Instead, the US government should work with Somalia and other Muslim-majority countries to work to end the conflict and protect innocent lives. We fully expect Somaliland @Presidencysl_ advocates in DC to use the Prime Minister's unfortunate statement as proof of @Somalia's support for terrorism. Congress, especially Republicans, must reject any claim that attempts to establish such a false narrative
