Several thoughts here.

1) Let's decide if a 21-year-old is a kid or not. Because if not, then why not ask for accountability for vile stuff. They can drink, vote, and buy a gun. Kid? Give me a break.

2) We should be concerned about character formation, To put it another way, Vance is mad that someone exposed the group chat, but not focused on the character of the individuals in the group chat. "Out of the overflow of the heart..."

3) I have group chats with friends. There are edgy jokes. If one of my friends started joking about raping their enemies, throwing them in gas chambers, or started calling black folks monkeys or "watermelon people", my friends in my group chat would descend on them like vultures and beat them like they stole something. This isn't just young edginess. It's disgusting racism, and there should be no equivocation or justification for it.
