🧵HOLY SHIT. The Flyers just traded for Trevor Zegras.
Gave up Poehling, the 45th pick, and a 4th rounder for a 24-year-old center who had back-to-back 60+ point seasons.
There's a reason he was available. But there's also a reason this could be brilliant for both sides.
Coots in the first period has 6 hits. Body on every puck, compete through the roof. If the kids in that locker room aren’t taking notes, they should be. Reminds me so much of Mike Richards leading by example #LetsGoFlyers
I think we have to be careful sometimes suggesting there was an abundance of "outside criticism." Just because a couple dozen people on this awful app are disproportionately loud (and often misinformed) it doesn't mean that represents broad opinion. Just my two cents.
I'm back. It's been a while.
New job, coaching took over my life, and I watched this fanbase lose its mind about Matvei Michkov from the sidelines all season.
The Zoom Out Series starts now.

S/O to @PHLY_Flyers@JimIkeHW@FlyersNation@Flyers_Clips@HWhockeyX and everyone in the Flyers community keeping the conversation going all year — even when it got ugly.
That energy is what makes this fanbase elite. Hype to have time to get back into this for the playoff push

@KerkMcKracken You keep spamming this. It’s the first I’ve heard of it so I’m not speaking on something I don’t know about. If true I don’t support it. What I can speak on is him taking 30 minutes to talk to a random person on advice on how to start a blog.
To be fair Derek, you quote tweeting it is also driving clicks. Appreciate the engagement 🤝 I just wish it was about the parts of video and analysis I went through. But hey I’ll take it !
"@KKurzNHL leans into the Michkov stuff and plays the villain — he knows what drives clicks and I think he enjoys it."
"Different styles. Both valuable."
I don't think shitting on Michkov to drive clicks is particularly valuable nor do I think it's a job I must let someone do.
We're all going to call this game a "must-win," and it is, in the sense that it's a really important game. That said, the Flyers probably can lose 1 or 2 games out of their final six and still make the playoffs. It's not like they HAVE to win out. (Though that would help.)
@MeszarosFanpage@BroadStBreakout@charlieo_conn How people react to what has been fair criticism and facts about how he handled his offseason is not something I worry about. The news is the news. If I wasn't being fair with my coverage, I'd hear about it from my editors.
@SuitableAlias If you told me that the athletic requires X engagement to keep your job or be viewed as a strong person I wouldn’t be shocked in the slightest. If you don’t agree with him then keep it moving and don’t give the engagement
@SuitableAlias To him it might be !!! You don’t know what metrics the New York Times is looking at when they’re evaluating writers. The way the writing system is with social media is so much different than you could possibly imagine.
@hockeygobler Yeah that’s totally fair. That’ll be the only time I chime in on it. I had a personal experience to share about how he tried to help me without ever meeting me. Am I think that’s worth sharing. At the end of the day I haven’t chimed in almost all year. Just catching up !
@evisokey@SuitableAlias My post with videos and charts supporting my Michkov opinion has 200 views. He quoted a tweet about Kevin Kurz who personally tried to help me gets over 1,000 from the angry mob. If 10% of those people actually read my article I might gain a few other supporters
@evisokey@SuitableAlias Honestly when I had 15 followers him commenting helped it gain more eyes organically vs me trying to promote it. For that I’m thankful personally. Doesn’t mean I have to agree with him in his takes.
