We are incredibly sad to announce the permanent closure of Broadhursts.
All the booksellers have been made redundant, & the shop will no longer open for trading with immediate effect.

This number, & an email address ([email protected]), are linked to the new owner of Broadhursts via his other business, Blackberry Alpacas, the contact information for which is in the public domain. They also have a presence on Facebook if people want to try there.
We're aware that some people have been having difficulties contacting the owner via email to get a refund on their shop vouchers. You might have more luck with his business phone number, included on the closure sign he put on the door (07980 948831) π€
@RFHunt1@suzypuss Laurie's stepson bought the business from his mother Rita (Laurie's wife), but I don't think he is running it as a bookshop at the moment.
@tigerhanzz@MaryEarnshaw Yes, we had found out about the email etc, & the shop line being closed down, but it felt wrong not to try help people get their money back (as this contact info is out in the public domain already). Nothing is being done with the shop at the moment, no, as far as I know.
@suzypuss@RFHunt1 It is - we're still not over it! I've just popped on to give out some info on claiming shop voucher refunds, as I have bumped into a few affected customers over recent weeks & they say they're getting nowhere with email or phoning the shop.
@suzypuss@RFHunt1 Have been there myself recently, very weird! It is the first time I have not been able to order where I work since 2010 (not all that time at Broadhursts though)
I know a lot of people have been wondering why the bookshop has closed so suddenly, so here is some more information from the new owner's wife, originally posted on Facebook, which will hopefully clarify the situation somewhat.
Thanks to everyone for your kind comments about what the shop has meant to you. Us booksellers are devastated by the situation. We can't go into the details of the closure at the moment, but sadly it isn't something we can crowdfund our way out of.

Our bookshop is next to a Chinese restaurant, & right now there is a maddeningly delicious chilli-garlic-sticky smell wafting from their direction. Suddenly my ham & cheese sandwich no longer seems like a satisfying lunch choice!
