Landscape Recovery Project led by Wyre Rivers Trust. Working across 4000ha alongside 25 farmers to deliver NFM, regenerative agriculture and nature recovery.
Introducing the Brock and Calder Landscape Recovery Project led by Wyre Rivers Trust. Covering 4000ha, we're partnering with 25 local farmers to implement innovative NFM, regenerative farming, and nature recovery strategies. Stay tuned for further updates!🌱 #LandscapeRecovery
When we enhance river habitat, we often aim to mimic natural tree fall. Here, we can see this process in action - whole trees that have fallen into Lancashire's River Brock without human intervention 🌳
Fantastic event this week for our @IFarmers project. We explored the NFM benefits of diverse and deep rooting swards and how to establish and manage herbal leys for longevity.
Between the 6th-13th of July 2025 Wyre Rivers Trust will be putting on a self-led 'Bird BioBlitz' citizen science event! We need your help to monitor local bird species and populations across our project area for the Brock and Calder Landscape Recovery Project.
What a brilliant day @CarbonCallFarm, discussing all things regenerative and nature friendly farming. We’ve come back with lots of new ideas to share with farmers in the Wyre. Thanks to @theriverstrust for supporting us to attend.
We’ve planted a lot of wet areas with rushes with alder and willow trees in cactus tree guards
It’s a no cost way to get more trees in to the farm - and may well create more grazing not less
Regenerative agriculture is a farmer-led movement that aims to improve soil health, biodiversity and water quality while maintaining food production levels and improving climate change resilience.

Before: an artificially straight, steep, redirected river that was prone to flooding and bank erosion 👎
After: a more natural channel that boosts biodiversity, stores stormwater, and captures carbon 🐟

Brock & Calder Landscape Recovery. Excellent to see such great vision behind action by farmers & estates from source to sea in the Wyre catchment, to slow flow & improve water via restoring soil health, protecting peat & creating habitat, & with all that helping Nature to recover

Denuded & depauperate, it will need to be transformational! So many channels realigned, straightened & perched, disconnecting floodplains
Why not bob on down this May half term to spend some time with the River? 😃 10:30-13:00 next Thursday!
Try your hand at river dipping, learn to ID some underwater wildlife all whilst learning about our exciting Brock and Calder Landscape Recovery Project🔍
Big thanks to @blackpoolsixth and @edgehill for an empowering day at the Youth Climate Conference 2024. The team left feeling motivated and inspired💪!
Our stall focused on how to break into the conservation sector🎇and the NFM work of the Trust with a brash bundle demo.
Some really interesting learnings from this research we participated in earlier in the year. Lots to put in to practice and help shape landscape recovery through blended finance.

Great day with @ernestcooktrust at Low Beckside Farm, learning how to create impactful traineeships and build land-based skills.
Big thanks to Vicky and Cathy for organising—excited too see how we can build future education opportunities in the Brock and Calder LRS Project!
WRT team joined instructor Jo for a day of MoRPh training last week📋! The surveys will help the team assess and report on the conditions of our rivers over time, providing (hopefully!) some interesting results in the long term.
If you’re looking to reduce your nitrogen usage, check out this helpful guide by #FarmNetZero.
It covers the baseline nitrogen requirements for different crops, calculations for soil nitrogen supply, and more. https://t.co/gxYlCFEzEX @FarmCO2Toolkit
September means electrofishing surveys🐟! Our biggest Brown trout yet at 329mm found in the Calder. On the river bank, the WRT team ID the fish species and take fork length measurements.
No fish are harmed during the survey and all were returned back to river safely.
