6 Years Later: How the Govt Missed Chance to Slow COVID
There's solace in recognition of missteps & the impact on those who lived, worked, & suffered through COVID.
Stopping the spread wasn’t only a professional imperative, for me it was personal too.

From NHS paramedic to AI innovator—watch how @NotebookLM captured my 6-month career pivot into Digital Health. 25 years of urgency meet prompt engineering and a mission to transform healthcare. Ready to rewrite your story? #AICareer#HealthcareTech#NotebookLM
If you're in healthcare and curious about AI but don't know where to start, maybe my experiment will give you ideas.
When I stepped down from my #healthcare role, I didn’t have a clear plan.
I turned to AI for a solution...

After 25 years in the #NHS 999/111, I'm pivoting to AI & digital health.
Not because I've given up on healthcare—because I haven't given up on fixing it.
My journey starts here (human-written, no AI - unlike this tweet😉): https://t.co/6kicatD3jf

@BrexitRage As much as I'm a fan of Gina Miller's work versus previous Tory governments, my vote needs to count against empowering another Conservative candidate. I'm afraid a vote for Alan would effectively be a Tory vote.
I've been conflicted over how to vote in tomorrow's #MidBeds by-election.
Local campaigning has been like nothing I've seen. Theresa May was allegedly spotted in our village!
I briefly met the Lab & LD candidates outside my children's school & they both seem like good... 1/x
...replied in detail to my email raising concerns about NHS matters & local development & conservation.
It's made me feel like my vote matters for the first time in more than a decade.
My dismay at British politics remains, but @alistrathern has given me hope, at least locally.
They can't both be right and I worry that the fog of war they're creating between them will dilute the anti-Tory vote.
Ultimately, the effort that I've seen from the Labour candidate, Alistair Strathern, has been what has impressed me most. He's put on surgeries & even... 3/x
I usually enjoy listening to @lbc, but I've just had to switch off @NickFerrariLBC disingenuous baiting of a doctor. To claim that the underfunding of the NHS shouldn't be addressed because 'it would just kill more people' is sickening, offensive and illogical.
I have submitted an account I wrote on 9th March 2020, detailing my concerns.
Your story matters. Share your experience of the pandemic with @covidinquiryuk to help them understand the full picture of its impact across the UK. Visit: https://t.co/Bj4qZyqfH4 to find out more.
I'll be following the @covidinquiryuk with interest & renewed regret.
I witnessed & was part of the inadequate healthcare response in February/March 2020 and beyond. We squandered opportunities to use foresight & the UK's geographical advantages to slow the spread of #Covid19.
It's that anniversary again, when I get reminded of that complicated, bittersweet wave of emotions; horror, sadness, gratitude, regret, wonder.
Smile and give someone a hug. You never know when it'll be your last chance.

From inside the #NHS, sometimes it feels like we're holding it together by our fingertips, and sometimes it feels like we just can't do enough to help everyone. I'm grateful for this infographic as it restores some pride & shows that our collective efforts aren't in vain.

'UK healthcare is no longer about best practice, optimal patient journeys, and golden hours. Everyone still at their post is just trying to get through the next shift with as little blood as possible on their hands.'

This is tragic & a risk I hoped had been addressed.
My Dad, Clive Westhorpe, was a career firefighter who retired from LFB on medical grounds. He died aged 67 from complications due to a blood cancer. He'd 'taken a good lungful in his time'.

Imagine this is ur workplace, that u spend ur working day bouncing from job 2 job, attending anything from trapped wind to gunshot wounds, covering 100's of miles a day, often without 5 minutes to grab a coffee. Now tell me paramedics don't deserve a pay rise #ambulancestrike#GTTO
Tonight, I’ve come close to tears whilst apologising to patients for the standards of care we are able to provide.
In my 22 years of being an A&E Dr, I’ve never seen things so bad. It’s the same everywhere.
I just hope patients know fault lies with politicians not NHS staff.
Full support behind the #AmbulanceStrike today. The system has collapsed, the workforce is burned out and broken, the government is not listening. Extreme measures have to be taken. It’s time they got fair pay and the health service was funded properly again.
