@JonM_Garcia @erichoke I don't think it’s controversial for sermons to be Christocentric, it's controversial to shoehorn it in a way that is not true to the text. Properly exegete the text and you can take it to the cross.

@erichoke Preaching the meaning of the text that we should place our faith in God as David did when facing Goliath is not moralism. Preach the text instead of preaching a meaning into it.

@erichoke David said that the Lord had delivered from the lion and bear and would deliver from the Philistine. David told Goliath you come with sword, spear, and javelin but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts.

@erichoke But that's not the meaning of the text. David was able to stand and fight Goliath because of his great faith in God. God supplied David with the bravery he needed. No, we can’t face our giants alone, but just like David, we can place our faith in God to face them.

@erichoke This is a sad thread. So many Christians, even pastors, belittling and bad-mouthing others because they don’t have the same degree as them. What happened to encouraging and building up brothers in Christ? Just sad.
