Strong guys, especially the ones inexperienced in grappling, will try to push you off from the bottom if you mount them.
The arms are strong moving vertically, as opposed to moving laterally. Think about your strength difference between bench press and lateral shoulder raises.
Use that to your advantage when you’re pushed by the bottom guy and direct their arms sideways to eliminate their strength. Then use your chest along with your body weight to pin their arms across their face.
It’s more about efficiency than cardio Akhi.
Many young marathon runners start BJJ and get gassed out in their early days against unc aged people grappling for a longer time. Because those grappling for longer, know how to preserve their energy in all modes of actions. Modes of actions are the foundational ways your body moves. There are 4. Contract muscles, assume posture, displace in space, articulate joints.
In grappling, this would be:
Contract Muscles = Grip
Assume Posture = Frame
Displacement In Space = Hang
Articulate Joints = Technique
What makes someone new to grappling get tired quickly, despite their great cardio otherwise, is not knowing how much energy to exert during each modes of actions.
So you’ll see them having death grips till their fingers burn because they have no other technique to transition to,
or from the bottom using their triceps to push the individual - rather than use their forearms to create what the word actually means, “frames”,
Or hang on someone till their own muscles get exhausted,
Or rushing into a technique by shooting for a takedown - but then instead of repositioning themselves after a failed takedown attempt, they muscle through it and either end up gassing themselves out in the moment, or gas themselves out after scoring a successful takedown to do anything effective offensively afterwards.
A lot of effective grappling has to do with being relaxed and knowing when to exert vs when to slow things down.
@al_hejazi26 Sorry brother lol. But I’m happy you got into it. Tap early as a white belt, as you at times won’t be able to assess how strong a choke or submission lock is to fight through it before having it damage you. May Allah bless you with good health.
@borzalmm I do alright by the grace of Allah brother. Grappling is very therapeutic for me. I’m not “good” but I’m very comfortable grappling. I don’t know how to explain it without sounding weird.
My work was going slow this week with no financial profit, until Allah provided for me from where I didn’t expect.
Today while I was out training a new rep that joined our business, the rain started pouring down heavily. We were slightly far from my car and there was no way to get there without getting fully soaked in the rain, and so we did. I said we can’t work outdoor under this heavy rain so let’s take a break until the rain slows down and our clothes dry since we were soaked from top to bottom.
It was almost time for Dhuhr and I also wanted to dry myself off; as sitting in the car while soaked felt uncomfortable. So I decided to drive towards the Masjid close to where I was. On my way there I saw the business of one of my old clients from months ago, and decided to make a quick stop just to check on him. He told me that there was another rep that visited him today to upgrade his services; but he wanted to contact me first before signing a deal with that rep, since I’m his old contact, but he misplaced my number. I reconfirmed asking if the rep indeed came today? He said yes. Anyways, I upgraded his service and made a sale.
I said SubhanAllah. I was worried about not making money in this rain; but had Allah not poured the heavy rain down and got me soaked, I would’ve never taken a break and drove past that lane today. And there was no other way for my previous client to reach out to me until I showed up at his door by the permission of Allah. And because Allah had willed that sale for me, even someone else getting there before me didn’t make me lose what was written for me.
The Prophet ﷺ said,
“Were the son of Adam to flee from his provision as he flees from death, his provision would surely reach him just as death will reach him.”
[Ḥilyat al-Awliyā’ 7/90]
Ubadah b. al Samit said to his son,
“Son! You will not get the taste of the reality of faith until you know that what has come to you could not miss you, and that what has missed you could not come to you. I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say: The first thing Allah created was the pen. He said to it: Write. It asked: What should I write, my Lord? He said: Write what was decreed about everything till the Last Hour comes. Son! I heard the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) say : He who dies on something other than this does not belong to me.”

@_zlx1@penguin_writes1 Watch this snippet before you even think about replying back to my reply, because I will hold you accountable for your stupidity shown in the response to me. I’m doubling down on my advice to you, watch this before you respond.
The alleged transcript of that lecture is NOT verbatim quote, rather an “adaptation” as stated in the PDF of the one who uploaded it.
All one had to do was listen to the actual snippet from the lecture. Here is the audio,
Way to discredit your integrity, lying Madkhali.
From the Book: مكارم الأخلاق ومعاليها ومحمود طرائقها
Chapter: Compassion toward daughters, treating them well, and the virtue therein.
634 — Naṣr ibn Dāwūd al-Ṣāghānī narrated to us: ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿAmr, from the people of Mecca, narrated to us: Ṭalḥa ibn Zayd narrated to us, from al-Aʿmash, from Abī Wāʾil, who said:
A daughter of ʿAbd Allāh bin Masʿūd came forward — she was a young girl — so he drew her to his chest, then kissed her, then said: “Welcome! O veil of ʿAbd Allāh from the Fire!”
He then said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ say: “Whoever has a daughter, and he teaches her good manners and does so well, and he nourishes her and does so well, and he lavishes upon her from the blessing that Allāh has lavished upon him — she will be for him a protection on his right and on his left from the Fire, leading him to Paradise.”
The difference is not in takfir in clear matters, rather matters that includes misinterpretation (Tawil). In the latter, it’s better and should be left for the scholars of Haqq to analyze the matter and pass a fatwa. It’s a different story altogether in clear matters such as someone committing kufr in the Asl (foundation) of the Deen.
For example, if someone says he is Qadiyani, he’s a kafir. I dont need an opinion of any scholar on it. Because he denies Muhammad ﷺ being the last Messenger. Or if someone worships an idol along with Allah, since he never implemented Kufr bit Taghut.
But if someone has misconception or misinterpretation in the attributes of Allah, without rejecting or denying it - such as the Hadith of the man who asked his son to scatter his ashes in the sea after his death - these doubts need to be clarified before takfir.
This is Takfir done out of desires, not takfir in terms of someone actually falling into kufr. Umar رضي الله عنه made takfir of Hatib Al Baltaa رضي الله عنه by calling him a Munafiq and wanting to implement the ruling on him thinking he was aiding the kuffar by sending them a letter, but when it was clarified by the Prophet ﷺ after asking Hatib that he wasn’t - No takfir was made on him. I see refuge from Allah, Umar رضي الله عنه did NOT fall into kufr as per this hadith, since Umar never made takfir on him by desires, rather Ijtihad. A point to note is that the Prophet ﷺ didn’t ask Umar to repent either because the grounds on which Umar made takfir by were valid.
The humility of a student of knowledge when praised - A lesson from the story of the boy and the king.
“Son, today you are superior to me. Your affair has come to a stage where I find that you would be soon put to a trial,” [Sahih Muslim]
When the boy was seen by the monk as knowledgeable, and started helping others, he was praised by those he helped.
The Hadith continues…
“When a companion of the king who had gone blind heard about him, he came to him with numerous gifts and said: If you cure me all these things collected together here would be yours.”
But the boy refused any credit,
“He (the boy) said: I myself do not cure anyone. It is Allah Who cures and if you affirm faith in Allah, I shall also supplicate Allah to cure you.”
